So nice to see an alternative to the standard boutique hotels. The staff were all very polite, helpful and speak Mandarin and English. Rooms are super clean and quiet. Refreshing to have no TV in the room. One of the concepts behind the hotel is to promote real local urban culture and food which for me is fun and interesting. Highly recommended! 

Real Beitou culture

Solo Singer gives you a place to breathe, to smell the  Beitou air, and feel the freedom you’ve suddenly found. It is what you want it to be, and while each room is designed by artists according to their medium of choice, and their own experiences of Beitou and that storied little alley where the hotel is situated, their visions of its past or present is never foisted upon you. Instead, they gently suggest the might-have-been, could-be, and as-is. The room is merely comfortable. In other words, perfect. Tinn, Heather, Kim and others were kind and helpful, and most of all, sincere. A postcard is placed in a tray in your room, and Tinn encouraged me to send one home. All i had to do was to write it and they would post it for me. When I protested that it would take too long to reach Singapore, way after I have arrived home, Tinn said,”Why not write one to yourself, so you have something to look forward to when you get home?” I am now waiting for that reminder of my stay at Solo Singer, and dreaming of the time when I will go back there again.

A gem to remember, and to return to.

The Solo Singer has great charm. The staff are wonderfully kind and friendly and made us feel totally at home. The breakfast was beautiful (I specially loved the homemade bread made from corn, without any flour). The hostel has a lovely reading lounge on the top floor and another one full of cushions on the ground floor where guests can play the guitar if they are so inclined. I nearly forgot to mention the divine-smelling soap and shampoo, specially selected after careful thought to be as kind to the environment as possible. I highly recommend the Solo Singer. It's a haven in a world full of noise and bustle.

I lived in Taiwan in 2011 and was excited to come back with my partner and our young daughter. Solo Singer was the perfect landing place for our trip. The staff were friendly and communicative. They helped us arrange efficient and affordable airport pickup, and gave great recommendations. The space itself was clean and comfortable, and in a great location. We walked to the hot springs and around Beitou, and were able to take the MRT easily. I highly recommend staying at Solo Singer!

Solo Singer is wonderful!

From the concept to the execution to the folks running this place, I had a wonderful and insightful visit to Beitou, which is a gem of a place. A 2-night booking turned into 4. My trip was spontaneous, unplanned and both Heathers, Kim, Kate and Tinn couldn't have been more helpful in giving me advice on where to travel and how best to do so. In fact, the staff were never very far away, always willing to help or make time for a chat. Breakfasts are small but a much-appreciated entree into Beitou's culinary heart. It would have been great to have more info on the dishes served and in hindsight I should have asked...The rooms are indeed small, mine perfect for a solo traveler but I can't imagine sharing with someone else. In that case, I'd book the twin. I appreciated the high quality toiletries, the "hot springs bag" and I returned each day to a super clean room, snacks replenished, etc...Room rates are indeed a little steep but worth it. I'm counting the days until my next visit.

A Solo Singer convert

My  wife and I loved staying at Solo Singer and had a thoroughly positive experience. The warmth and creativity of the group of artistic women who manage the inn infuses all aspects of the experience at Solo Singer. Very comfortable rooms. The daily room price includes a delicious breakfast of local fare (often vegetarian) and afternoon tea service, featuring amazing Taiwanese oolong teas. The Beitou neighborhood is at the edge of the city aware from the urban intensity, featuring hot springs and bordering the wonderful Yangmingshan National Park, but also right near the MRT transit line which provides easy access to central Taipei. Highly recommended as a tranquil, comforting inn off the beaten path.

A friend recommended the Solo Singer Hotel, and described it as the perfect retreat, between hot springs and the busy Taipei.
And indeed, booking the suite at the Solo Singer was one of our best discovery in Taiwan. After 6 weeks of travels and work around South East Asia, we felt like home. 
From the place, full of history, to the staff, and the location, everything was ideal for us to slow down and chill.
The Solo Singer is one of those places we feel good coming back to..

Every room is unique and has an artistic flair. The provided breakfast was healthy and delicious. Staff are friendly, knowledgeable of the area, and take into consideration personal concerns such as dietary requirements.
