Cheers Downtown is a good hostel and I'd be very happy to stay there again. Really helpful staff who are very happy to advise you on how to make the most of your stay. It's got a cool student vibe, but as a much more "mature" guest I certainly didn't feel out of place.  The decor isn't the most modern but the whole location is clean and adequately furnished.  There's a cafe/bar on the ground floor which also serves as the communal area.  I didn't see too many people hanging out there, but guests were happy to organise social events nevertheless.  Decent simple breakfast.  2 minutes from the tram and also close to a great area behind the tram station with good bars and restaurants.

Really friendly and helpful staff

I stayed for several nights in mid September 2018. I just want to say thanks and express extreme gratitude to Ali, the manager. Ali is incredibly hospitable, warm, friendly, and helpful. When I arrived I was served breakfast, even though I arrived later than the allotted breakfast window. I was extremely grateful for this, having just taken an overnight bus from Kapadokya. Breakfast was a great value, as was the dorm room. 

Since I was leaving Istanbul in the evening, Ali let me store my luggage and use the facilities way past my check out time ... and even served me a few Turkish coffees along the way! As a caffeine addict I also genuinely appreciated this. The AC worked on first floor where I stayed, and the general atmosphere of the hostel was great. I liked the magnetic key access straight off of the street, allowing maximum flexibility for hours in and out. 

Great location. Istanbul itself rocks, and although some in the scene may say Beyo is on the decline due to recent and not so recent urban planning and political "initiatives", it's still an amazing, beautiful, Brooklyn meets Ottoman baroque neighborhood. Some of the buildings are splendid. Probably my favorite neighborhood in the city, maybe second only to Besiktas. Access to tram couldn't be easier, and there's laundry across the street. Minutes walk to Istiklal street. 

Some reviewers mentioned cleanliness, but I found that the facilities were plenty clean, and plenty adequate considering the cost of the room. Overall a great value, made much more pleasant by the efforts of the host, Ali. What a great guy! Thanks Ali! Would like to and hope to stay again soon.

Great Location, Great Staff, Great Value

I stayed there for 4 nights in start
because of friendly staff i booked 2 more nights
i faced some Problem with my Aircon + Leaking water at entrence 
but they refund me the money in the end because they cant solve Aircon issue

I'll definitely stay there when I am in Istanbul for holiday again. Really friendly atmosphere and staffs, very good location, almost perfect for those who wanna enjoy Istanbul's nightlife only by walking and don't wanna spend much for room. 
Ali and Hakan both are great.

Excellent location, Excelent people

I stayed there twice in 2017. It's near Taksim but for me much more important near direct tram which you can use to go any ferry port or to Galata Bridge or to airport and other places in Town. You can have nice breakfast there, comfy room. Only minus is one bathroom for one floor.

Cheap and nice with good location

I booked two nights at Cheers hostel and left after my first night. It was the worst hostel I've ever been to -- I'm shocked anyone has anything positive to say about it. The staff was apathetic, the facilities were filthy, and even basic things (sink, toilets, towel racks) were broken. When explaining this to the staff as why I was leaving early, they agreed to refund my second night on the condition that I not write them a bad review. They made no indication that they would actually take some pride in their business and actually fix the problems.

Four months after my stay, Cheers has made a charge against my credit card for some unknown reason. (The night I stayed was paid in cash.) I've filed a fraud report with my credit card company, but other travels should be warned and avoid this place at all costs. 

This is a dishonest business.
