We visited for breakfast as we were staying nearby. Service was fast and friendly but the food was the star. Best pub breakfast I've had by a mile. Good quality produce and the best scrambled eggs I've had in a long time. Everything was cooked to perfection. Will definitely be back if we're in the area again. I didn't take a picture as it didn't last long enough!

Best pub breakfast ever!

Went out for a special meal, and it was exceptional. From when you walk through the door you are made to feel comfortable and relaxed. The drinks are well priced and a large range. The menu is cleverly set up with a simple choice that covers everything you could want, and on top of that the specials they have always add another option. The starters are exceptional. The mains the same along with the desserts. The thing you will remember about the food is the food, not the pompous nature that certain places (try) to impress you when they serve it to you. But one thing that will always make you want to go back is how the staff make you feel. By far one of the best family nights out, but if you just want a quiet drink, yes it's the right place for you.

Outstanding

We use this pub quite often for Sunday lunch, which is always good.  So this time we headed there on a weekday.  The pub was fairly quiet so had a good choice of tables.  Service was prompt and friendly.

My husband opted for a burger and after changing my mind I decided on fish and chips.  The food arrived after a reasonable wait ie sufficient time for it to be freshly prepared.  The burger was thick and juicy, great fluffy chips and a side of lovely crunchy coleslaw.

The cod was enormous, think whale on a plate! with gorgeous crunchy batter, great chips and plenty of tartare sauce.  So pleased that this place serves their sauces in an individual dish- no nasty sachets or grubby bottles.

Loved it!, will be back very soon

Yummy lunch

4 of us stayed on a golf trip, rooms are basic but clean, but oyr stay was made by Vicky and Mary behind the bar and the delicious food cooked by Patrick. Great atmosphere, good outside beer garden and a tasty breakfast served with a smile by Gary. Fantastic value for a friendly, welcoming local pub.

Great staff, lovely food

The Wheatsheaf is charming with friendly welcoming staff who provide great service. My room was clean and comfy, breakfast was delicious and I will stay here again if working this way. Thoroughly recommend. 😊

Lovely place to stay

Lovely pub in a beautiful village, at the price paid for a room for two and two breakfasts with a choice of what you had I could find nothing to complain about. OK so the room was small, so what, there was a nice clean bed I managed to sleep just fine. I have seen people complain about the size of the bathroom, yes it was tight but it was spotlessly clean, I'm quite a large unit but there was enough room for me to sit and contemplate the decor (if you know what I mean). The shower was a tight fit but I could get in and the flow of water was excellent. If the pub would like some advive I'd suggest that in room 1, they take out the bath tub, move thesink addjacent to the toilet, and put a shower cubicle at the place where the current sink is. All the staff were polite and happy, the only down side no proper cider.

Only stayed one night

Comfortable room, although challenging under the sloping roof.  We found the staff to be helpful and the bar well stocked. Breakfast was excellent and from a varied menu.  The kippers were a little hard, perhaps they were grilled and not poached.

Good value, comfortable place to stay with excellent breakfast

The room was basic, and the road outside was quite noisy.  Having said that this was definitely a "budget" break, and for the price we paid, we had everything we needed.
Unfortunately, when we arrived they told us that the kitchen had just shut, and they wouldn't be serving any more food.  It didn't matter as we found a lovely Thai restaurant in a pub in Cuckfield. The breakfast they served was very good.

The rooms are very small, with flat screen TV, a small desk area, wardrobe and tea and coffee making facilities. A good English breakfast is offered. Most of the rooms face the street that can be rather noisy at times, although the windows are soundproofed. As there is no air conditioning, this can be an issue on hot summer days (rarely an issue in Britain, admittedly). Some of the ground floor rooms can also suffer from noise from above – this is an old building and the wooden floors can be quite creaky, and the sounds of conversation (and much else) from above can be clearly heard. During our stay the room was not serviced. Overall, a nice and atmospheric accommodation option, despite some of the negatives.
