We stayed in this beautiful B&B just after Christmas and it was absolutely fantastic from start to end. Norrie and Sharon are amazing hosts, so warm and welcoming.

The B&B is in a great location, there are some really great bars and restaurants on Broughton street which is about 2 min walk away. It's a nice walk to Princes street and the castle, you can also get a bus if you aren't up for walking. The B&B is also close to the Royal Botanical Gardens which is stunning.

Parking is free all weekend, some areas are cheaper than others. Norrie and Sharon were really helpful with parking.

Our room overlooked the garden, which was lovely. It was decorated beautifully as was the entire B&B. The bed was comfy and the bathroom sparkling clean. Norrie and Sharon have thought of all the little things - polish for boots, cotton wool pads, hand gel not to mention all the usual amenities I.e hairdryer, iron and shampoo.

Breakfasts were home cooked and delicious, we really like that you are able to choose how much you wanted to eat each day. The service was outstanding, Norrie was so attentive and friendly. Another lovely personal touch from Sharon and Norrie was always remembering things you got up to and asked about them. 

Our stay was 100 out of 10.

Absolutely Perfect

We just love Edinburgh and to find a B&B this good was a serendipitous experience. Our host Norrie had waited for sometime for us to arrive with a welcoming glass of whiskey as our travel plans only allowed for a late arrival. The room was large with a comfortable bed nice views over the garden and plenty of space in the bathroom too. Everything was clean and fresh. Both the wife and I were here for the wedding of my niece, but unfortunately I had had a surgical procedure just days before our arrival which left me bed bound for our first day. This was frustrating as I just love walking around the city. The hotel is situated within a stones throw away from the buzz of the bars, cafes and general beauty of a historical city.  Norrie is a great host and cooks a mean ‘English’ breakfast and we can’t wait to go there again.

Made our visit special

Having stayed with Sharon and Norrie previously, this was the first place we tried when looking for accommodation for a family visit to the Christmas markets. easy 10 minute walk from Waverly station. Norrie greeted us with a welcoming tot of whisky, and refreshed the totgiven to my son and his wife who had arrived a little before us. Had the garden room in the basement again. Superbly decorated, spotlessly clean and with everything you could possibly need. watercooler outside thre door so a plentiful supply of cold water if needed. Hospitality tray well stocked. Good toiletries. Lovely comfortable beds with good linens. Breakfast is pre-ordered. Great menu all superbly prepared by Sharon, whilst Norrie is front of house. Catered for my son who is a veggie and separate soya milk provided. Truly a very hospitable establishment which we have recommended to many friends. Thanks for another great stay and we will return again.

1st place we looked for a Christmas market break

Visted again with my sister and family.Warm welcome by Norry with a tasty tot of Crabbies Whisky which went down a treat.
Sister and I were in the garden room again downstairs. Beautiful room, warm and well furnished. Spotless and comfortable.
Everything you may need is there, hairdryer, bottle opener, playing cards, wine glasses, good toiletries. face pads etc.
Water cooler just outside room, tea,coffee hot chocolate, chocolates etc.
Fabulous breakfast cooked by Sharon and served by Norry.
Wide range of choice. Nothing is too much trouble.
Had lovely weekend and highly recommend this superb B and B. So well located for centre of Edinburgh.
Thank you both again for a very enjoyable stay.

Fantastic place

Everything about this B&B is just amazing. We where greeted on arrival with a Whisky and then a description of things to do in the area. The room was big and we had a separate shower room to use just for us. Tea, coffee and hot chocolate in the room along with biscuits. Breakfast was amazing you choose this the night before and can have choices of cooked breakfast or kippers or salmon. The owner went out his way to make sure everyone was happy. If he was on sight when we came back in he always spoke and asked how our day/night had been. The B&B was about 10minute walk from the station and the same to the Christmas markets. 
Highly recommend Ramsay’s and hopefully we will be back. 

Amazing place to stay. 

While I believe this could be a good bed & breakfast based on all the reviews, I wouldnt know, because Ramsay's stiffed my friend and me. I have to share the several concerning things that happened to us in regards to this B&B. I suppose the silver lining is that they require cash payment, so we weren't charged... but also isn't it a bit fishy to be a cash-only business? Anyway, here's what happened: 

1. It was a pleasant experience booking over the phone with Sharon. However, I didnt recieve a confirmation email, so I emailed and asked for one. Should have been my first red flag. 

2. After I requested one, everything about the confirmation email I recieved in response was incorrect (party size, dates, # nights). Perhaps this was a mixup for someone else's reservation, so I asked for a corrected one, which I did recieve. red flag #2. 

3. I was scheduled to checkin on a Saturday. However, the Saturday a week prior to my checkin date, I got a one-line email from Ramsay's, asking "please advise arrival time". I wrote back confirming this was not my checkin date, and that it was the following Saturday, and would it be ok if I shared arrival time then. I recieved no response in return. red flag # 3.

4. On the following saturday afternoon (day of check-in), I called up Ramsay's to confirm I was arriving a few hours later, right around the last checkin time that she'd shared with me prior. I wanted to make sure they knew we were coming b/c I felt badly cutting close to their last check-in time on a Saturday. I couldn't reach anyone. IWe called both phone numbers on the website many times, texted (both the numbers online), and emailed. But I heard nothing back. I'm getting concerned at this point. red flag #4. 

5. We showed up to Ramsay's right at 7p (the last checkin time, she'd told me before). The lights were out, doors locked, and no one was there. We waited in the rain for 5-10 minutes or so, knocking and calling the phone numbers again. We ended up leaving and booking a hotel across town given the last minute nature of our predicament. 

This was, at best, a highly unprofessional way of interacting with customers. Days later (Tuesday), I recieved a call from Ramsay's while at work which I was not able to answer. They did not leave me a voicemail and I didn't bother calling back. Given the high reviews here and the fact that this place was featured in my travel book, I have to assume that this is a real business and my situation was out of the norm, but as it was an awful experience - I thought it important I share with other travellers.

Total no show - left us in the lurch

Previous rave reviews have said it all. Hosts were invaluable resources. Breakfast options all great. Room very comfortable and well appointed 

Best of all was location. Walk everywhere.  Great eating and drinking options within 2 blocks

If you worry about stairs ask for the ground floor. But stay there!



Better than the best reviews promised

This is a 240 yr building lovingly prepped for modern living. We were on the main floor overlooking the garden-lovely. Large room, everything is well thought out. Great king size bed. Hot Breakfast is prepared for you to order ( turned in the previous day, there is variety and it’s tasty. Location is great, only 10 min to the Old City, and should you need to rent a car from Hertz like we did, it’s most convenient. All in all, a lovely stay, if we return, we’ll stay with the Ramsey’s again. 

Loved staying there

Staying at this lovely B&B was simply the best decision we've made for our trip to Edinburgh. Our hosts were so friendly and provided us with a lot of recommendations for the city and its surrondings. Just around the corner is a nice street with cafes and restaurants, other pubs and restaurants are just 5 minutes away und its a short walk to the old town, around 10-15 min. Our room was really beautiful, with a garden view and a nice, clean bathroom. We had a kingsize bed which was extremely comfortable. Even tea, sweets and coffee were in the room, to make your own coffee in the afternoon. We also loved the enormous breakfast, there are things that are always provided like tea, cereals, fruits, jam, juice and you got to choose from a menu if you would like an additional scottish breakfast, porridge, fruit salad or eggs. It was delicious! Thank you for this wonderful stay at you B&B!

The best experience

Picked this wee hidden gem on the advice of other travellers and it so lived up to its reputation. Norrie the owner is a lovely man and couldn't do enough for us. The room itself was beautiful and it more than cover all your needs. The breakfast was so delicious, with plenty of choice and the whiskey we had along with it fair made it different. Highly recommend this lovely wee place and would certainly go back.
