Had an overnight stay  here.Room was clean,warm and had en suite as it was a family room.great location for busses to and from the centre.will stay here again.Tea and coffee available in room and lots of shops nearby.

Good price budget  B&B

We stayed here for 2 nights. There is a Lidl just next tot he guest house, Although its little far from the city centre the weather was so nice we did not realise how much we walked in 2 days.
The host is nice, they provide very basic breakfast with cereals and coffee.
I liked the guesthouse and city both

Nice and clean rooms

We booked this guesthouse last minute as we had planned to stay with friends but this changed at short notice. we didn't want to pay dear as it was just a flying visit for one night and in fact we're looking at hostels but couldn't find any availability for a private double room on the date wanted. so, we had checked different sites and this place was almost half the price of the cheapest alternative we could find. I had read the reviews prior to booking and nearly decided against it but I decided we could suck it up just for one night. 
Previous reviews have stated that the owners English isn't great however we had no issue with this, we arrived into Edinburgh early so decided we would call round and drop off ours bags which we were able to do without any problems, then we returned after 4 to check in. The 'reception' of the guesthouse is obviously the owners living quarters and there is a bed in the room but this didn't bother us too much, after all we were just in there to pay and get keys. 
Our room was basic and could do with a decor update but the white sheets on the bed where clean and clean towels where left for us, there was a sink in the room which was handy and the tea and coffee facilities where what you would get at any guesthouse, we didn't go looking under the bed or in corners because we thought we were better off not looking too much into it but over all room was clean. We were in the basement so the only down fall was we were right beside the dining room which meant we heard the guest all coming for breakfast in the morning. 
The breakfast is a continental breakfast and does exactly what it says on the tin. On our arrival the night before we had been asked what time did we want breakfast , it was served between 8 -10 so we went for 9.30, cereals, toast, fruit, yogurt and even croissants, scones and pain au chocolate where all made available as well as fruit juice, tea and coffee, the owner was very helpful however he does kind of linger in the room, I don't think he meant any harm it was just incase you needed something but was a little off putting. 
After breakfast we checked out with no problems. The guesthouse is really centrally located to Haymarket station and not far from town centre, loads of places to eat and drink round about. 
This guesthouse was perfect for a cheap and cheerful one night stay and we got it for £45, so for just over £20 each we really can't complain. If your looking for a hotel, book a hotel,this is just a basic b&b. 

A cheap and cheerful one night stay. 

Booked because it was cheap , so in effect you get what you pay for. The fella who greeted us seemed a decent quiet chap and showed us to our room unfortunately it stank of stale cigarettes in the curtains and cushions so we had to pop in the shop next door for some air freshener. Breakfast was very disappointing if I'm honest after reading "good" reviews.  Popped next door again to get some non dairy milk for the cereal. Would I use it again ? Probably yes as its a bed for the night

Don't let first impressions put you off. We stayed two nights and chose this as it was within budget and included breakfast. I made the mistake of assuming it was cooked- they call it continental breakfast but there are no cold meats, cheeses, chopped fruit etc just toast, banana, jam/marmalade, croissants, cereals, yoghurt. Basic but sufficient. Room decor badly needs updated but does have tea/coffee, hairdryer. Toilet and separate bathroom are very clean. Front door has a keyless fob entry and is very secure. Not far from Haymarket and bus No33 stops right outside the B & B. Owners are friendly and accommodating to any other requests during the stay.

I think that the Salty guesthouse is very well priced,it is very clean,I can't say anything bad about it, some reviews are very harsh and unjustified, I was more than happy with my stay,the host was very helpful

Decent guesthouse

We reserved through Booking.com not really knowing much about he area except that it was close to the castle. We are able to walk there in about 15 min which is what you want to do since parking is limited. When we arrived we were super late and we were greeted with a smiling face and could park right outside. We were shown to the room immediately. The room was a family room- 2double beds. It was clean and good enough for us as we were just sleeping and checking out the next morning. No hot breakfast in the morning but had coffee and tea, fruit and cereals. They were very helpful with directions and helped me when I forgot to pack items and needed them. There is a Lidl next door for groceries and several great restaurants close by including a Hungarian one I would recommend-you pass right by it on the way to the castle. Altogether good experience, nothing fancy but we were satisfied. 

Nice owners

We stayed at this guest house for two nights, room was clean and tidy but a bit small, we had to share a bathroom but it was always available when we needed it, the breakfast was continental but good range of cereals and as much toast as you could eat, it is about a twenty minute walk into Edinburgh City but buses and trams are very frequent from Haymarket Station.

Edinburgh Military Tattoo stay

As we walked in there was a horrible odour at the front door of cigarette smoke. Shown downstairs to our room which was underwhelming. Cracks in walls and very poor installation of a sink in the corner. Tap was dirty and appeared that it hadn't been properly cleaned in ages. Residue sll over the handle. Uncomfortable bed.
Then-Went to use the shared toilet on the main floor and was overwhelmed by a stench of stale urine. Almost like the walls were drenched in it. Looked like it hadn't had a solid clean in months. Vile. I wanted to leave at that point but it was already late evening by that point and we were low on options at that time. Slept (horribly) for a few hours and got up early to get out of there.
Upstairs bathroom was okay, but being shared by six rooms..
Would not ever return there and honestly don't know how it had an above average rating, considering I would give it negative stars if I could.
I wish there were more reviews about this place so that I didn't book it and see how bad it was for myself. 

So, in summary, just don't.

Don't do it. Just don't. 

It does t have even the minimum what you would expect from average B&B. There is no edible breakfast, I never have been in Scottish B&B without cooked breakfast. But this doesn’t even provide decent continental, I’m gluten free and diabetic so was nothing for me to eat so I had instant coffee for breakfast :-/ my friend had banana. Toast with jam is not what I could call a breakfast. 
Rooms were ok, we had the one on very top floor so advertised WiFi doesn’t have signal there. Bed was worn and we could feel every spring, pillows were so hard it was like sleep in rocks. Bed sheets were oddly set as it wasn’t duvet cover but the duvet was put over flat sheet (probably saving them washing the covers too often). 
We stayed two nights and didn’t get any clean up, no bins emptied or tea tray filled up. 
Bathroom was okay as we were the only ones on our floor to use it, although there were old shampoo bottles and razors and other personal stuff which wasn’t ours. The bin in there wasn’t emptied during our stay either or no refills of TP. 
Altogether I say I would never come back. My friend keeps saying was good price and good location. But I still expect to get decent service and minimal standards provided.
