I booked all 4 of their rooms  for 2 nights for my family as my daughter was getting married at the church in the village. The Jolly Tar and staff could not have been better.  All of the rooms were spotless. Serviced between nights.  Food was lovely. The burgers were a big hit.. The breakfast was outstanding according to my dad.!!  Staff couldn't do enough, absolute 5 star treatment.  I can't thank you enough for looking after them so well. I will bring them back for lunch on the anniversary!!  Thank you x

Wow! Absolute gem of a find.

Stayed for a night at the Jolly Tar. Captain Morgan Room was very clean and comfortable and managed to avoid the low beam. The cooked breakfast was great. The hosts were warm and friendly - great place!

Great find!

Everything about our one night stay here was excellent. We were made to feel very welcome indeed, our rooms were well appointed and spotless and we had an excellent dinner and breakfast as well.

Thanks to the whole team at the Jolly Tar we were well set for our kayaking trip on the river Thames!

A wonderful, friendly retreat

We stayed for one night only.  Facilities were lovely and inn keeper was very helpful and friendly.  The pub/restaurant is well presented and we were only sorry that we were expected elsewhere and did not have time to sample real ale and dinner.  We did have breakfast which was jolly fine!  I would whole heartedly recommend this charming pub/hotel.

A lovely one night stand

My work colleague asked me if I liked pork chops. Well yes I do. Of course I do, who wouldn't, right?  

As we had a new French colleague starting we thought it'd be perfect to go to a traditional English pub. Our foreign colleagues love our 'proper' pubs. 

Jolly Tar, or as he called it the 'Pork Chop' pub was the place t go so off we went. 

It's set in the most wonderful village and although we arrived after dark, and there was little in the form of lights around, you could tell that this is a lovely area. Houses and streets all look picture postcard good. 

Anyway in we popped. We had the HUGE steak, and BIG pork chops; cooked to perfection, tender and tasty. Chips and salad were good but the meat takes all the credit. 

For pud; Eton Mess for our Frenchman (superb!), whilst us English types had brioche bread and butter pudding (superb!). 

Prices are fair. 

Will definitely be going again and I highly recommend you do too. 

Pork Chop!

We went for Sunday lunch, none of us had eaten here before, but had heard good things. Beautiful setting, and really tastefully decorated, allowing for the character of the pub to be ever present. Sunday lunch was one of the best I’ve had in ages! Plenty of roast potatoes and vegetables, so often when sharing veg there isn’t enough, but not here! 
White wine was served perfectly chilled, which is another thing other pubs get wrong. We did have to wait a while for our order, but it was cooked fresh and well worth the wait

Perfect setting for a family Sunday lunch 

A week before booking for our daughters 18th birthday dinner, we phoned to ask about vegetarian options (and dietary issues) as the online menu was limited to a salad and we wanted to make sure everyone had a good choice. My husband spoke to someone he assumed was the Manager and was told not to worry and the chef could work around things. We went ahead and booked after his reassurance.
We got there last night to find the only veggie main was a Goat Cheese and Red Onion salad on the standard menu but Grandma fancied a hot main - fair enough. I went to talk to the young man behind the bar to save a public discussion and said about the phone call. He was apologetic but said the menu was all there was and pointed out the two fish dishes - my comment was that "they're not vegetarian!" Seems there was no chance of speaking to either the Manager - despite me referring to our conversation -  or the Chef which really was annoying in the circumstances.
As it was, she had to have a fish dish as there was no other choice (occasionally has to eat fish as this sort of thing has happened so many times), but without the parma ham that it's wrapped in - no alternative offered.
My daughters steak was tasty but had to go back as it was way too rare. Pies were delicious as always.
It was a real shame as both my Mum and I started our evening very stressed which was what we were trying to avoid and we would have gone elsewhere had we been told the truth beforehand. It spoiled what should have been a special celebration meal. Also, it would be good to have a hot veggie option on offer when everyone else is tucking into steaks, chops and pies etc ...

Despite reassurances from the Manager beforehand, not a good venue for vegetarians

The menu is a bit limited also expensive. Service was ok ish. Food once again was ok but nothing was great!. Overall over priced. Nice setting in the village and great for a summer visit however.
