Despite the good location this was a terrible experience, on arrival was told by a scribed note stuck to the front door to go across the road for key, was rudely greeted by a very dirty scruffy woman who did not appear to be happy we had arrived once given keys to the a building which was looked derelict broken windows, smashed door and rubbish outside, once inside was greeted by the smell of damp, mould and urine, our room was on the 1st floor which after going up a dirty staircase past a broken dirty window we entered the room which had not been cleaned broken window, bed and sockets, when complaining this time to a man who said he owned the building apologised and said he was aware the room was dirty as the cleaner had not turned up that day and gave me a key to the room next door which was the same as first room however bed had been made I tried contacting them again but couldn't get hold them tried booking else were but everything had been booked up, despite buying cleaning products had to wash with baby wipes as shower didn't work and bathroom dirty and mouldy DONT NOT STAY HERE THIS PLACE IS A HEALTH VIOLATION!!!!!!

Position is good handy to london attractions. Room was filthy had to buy cleaning products to make safe for human habitation.Sheets were similar to shroud of turain.Will seek therapy to try to forget.

Golden star hotel be warned

Room was not vacant on arrival, so we had to wait Till 5.p.m to enter uncleaned room. Used toiletpapir under the bed, lubricant behind the dresser, along with cigaret buds in the carpet. Absolutely not cleaned for years 😫😫Strange, old smell in the Room and trash outside the Windows, including orangejuice container with mold. Jam was smeared on the walls.

Frankly dangerous.
Front door broken, room door not much better. Insisted on cash, no change given.
No staff presence from 3pm onward (earlier if they can) Place filthy, no towels, bed sheets dirty and bloody in places. It's at best a hostel, and not a very good one.
I get that budget accommodation in London is hit or miss, I come to London regularly, but made a big error choosing this dump, was left feeling vulnerable and unsafe. Had I been a solo woman, or vulnerable person, I would have been in difficulties.
Avoid at all costs.

Upon arrival we were stood outside the hotel entrance as the door was locked. We noticed there was a man stood next to the railing with a bag of toilet roll on the floor and after 10 minutes the man asked if he could help us. Turns out he was the owner, we actually thought he was a homeless man. He wasn't particularly welcoming and said he had to wait for his nephew to come. I'm unsure why as he was the one who took the payment anyway. There was no reception, just a chair in a very narrow hallway and the list of check-ins were written on a scrappy piece of paper.

The state of the room really didn't surprise us as we only paid £50 for the night. However be prepared for a scummy dirty room that probably hasn't been cleaned for several months. It was a bit gross that a filthy curtain had no tie so the only way to get light into the room was to twist it, and stick it out the window (as it already was when we first entered the room). Really unhygienic as the curtain which had been touching the filthy wall outside then had to hang inside the room touching the walls and pillows-the owner didn't think to put the pillows on the opposite side of the bed.

The bedding and pillows were very damp...I suppose that's because it was a basement room but still! Everything that had the potential to be dirty certainly was dirty. The mirror was all faded and scratched so it seemed pointless having it in the room as you couldn't see anything anyway and it was in such a dark corner of the room where light didn't penetrate.

The TV didn't work and the plug socket was be very high up on the wall so that when you were charging your phone, the phone couldn't be lay down on the floor and was suspended in mid air. 

There was no door for the shower room and 
the distance between the toilet and shower was probably a few inches, so you could probably sit on the toilet whilst washing your feet. There was mould on the curtains and when having a shower, the water went all over the floor. 

We were only given ONE towel as the owner insisted he thought the booking was for one person so I had to show him my booking confirmation (most places give 2 towels per person normally...) He even had the cheek to say that we should be grateful we got the room for cheap and that he can charge much higher rates for weekends. He seemed annoyed that we only paid £50 for the room and demanded to know when we booked it and through what means. I assumed that card payment would be possible, certainly in this day and age! But he said that his card machine had problems and was broken, which I didn't really take his word for. So I asked for another towel and he made some excuse saying that due to covid, there's a shortage of towels and he hadn't received the fresh linen from the company that does it for him. Really poor excuse...

You really do get what you pay for!!!

Look I know this was cheap, so I expected basic, however they would seriously need to upgrade this place to become basic. First of all (I will add pictures) there was no carpet instead there were strips of foam randomly spread over the floor which were a trip hazard, the light switch for the room was as you entered so you had to make you way across the room in the dark with a trip hazard. This foam would also get pushed aside when you opened the door. The room had a white fridge which was almost black from dirt, a tv with no aerial a dirty microwave, a set of drawers with all the broken draw fronts hanging off, a sheet and itchy blanket on bed, a few lumps of some black stuff ( unsure what they were) on window sill,floor and side, a sink that would not drain unless left for about 10 minutes, a shower that ran lukewarm for around 10 seconds and then back to freezing. Half a toilet roll.

I had the joy of coming back to a man urinating up the front door. 

On arrival there is a mobile number in window which you phone and then wait for about 20 minutes before someone comes and shows you to your cell. On waiting I got to see some of the other guests and there was a few people who were down on their luck staying here who were by the looks of it homeless, and were also reliant of alcohol. It seems this place is used to accommodate rough sleepers and I am all for that, but I feel the standard of accommodation is too poor and a night on the streets might even be better than this place. There was a constant flow of people to the side of the building where I was located and was an obvious area where drugs were being sold. I will say though that I never felt unsafe. But if I was a single woman then maybe I would feel a bit intimidated.

This area has some grand buildings and this one could be one of them if they spent some money on it, but I don’t think they ever will all the time they can get away with letting out such poor accommodation. Although they do have a new sign outside 

Do yourself a favour and spend little more and stay else where, do not by any means stay here or be taken in by their pictures, look at mine these are the real pictures.

Not even good enough to be called Basic.

Filthy Room. Seems like they didn’t clean the room at all prior us arriving but just spreaded the beds. Which were also disgusting, there were multiple spots on the sheets and the bed headboard had a huge stain. Carpets also had stains and hairs everywhere . The curtain was falling apart and the window had to be held open with a piece of wood. The bathroom was absolutely disgusting dirty also , hair were still in the sink. Also the tv didnt work, couldn’t turn it on whatsoever. Didnt surprise us tho after seeing the room.

Dont go here

Do not let your daughter stay at this terrible place.  No duvet, no loo roll, no soap, no answer to the phone, she was left for 2 hours alone waiting for someone.    Absolutely terrible rude unhelpful place.   If there were any other hotels available I would have moved her.

Terrible place to stay

The place is basic, but habitable with a decent shower and a decent bed.

As for location, I am afraid you cannot get much closer to central London and at this price is a bargain.

I needed to find a place to sleep for 7 nights due to a house move over the August bank holiday weekend. Hotels in this area ( I do live here) had jumped up so much I balked at the idea of having to pay over the odds for a hotel in the area when I knew that they should be much cheaper ( I do empathise however with the problems the hospitality industry is facing post COVID).

This place was very reasonable and for what I wanted (bed and a shower) absolutely fine.

I agree, it does need some work, new carpets, proper clean but it is not unsanitary and for the price - I cannot complain.

The lovely couple who run it are amenable, friendly and always available.

If you need somewhere cheap, excellent location and where you only need a bed and shower then this place will do just fine for a few nights.

People, it's 40 quid a night, for a couple!

my friends and I went to this hotel 2 months ago and is was terrible!! i wish I could give it 1 star.
When we first enter the room, it smells bad. our room was at the top floor.
we saw: holes on the wall, cracks on cieling and pee stains!!! gross.....
