My husband treated me to a late lunch and cocktails at Milsoms today for my birthday. This was not our first visit, but the food is definitely better than a few years ago. 
The risotto was very tasty and the strudel was a work of art, both to the eye and tastebuds. My husband is a fussy eater, but he thoroughly enjoyed his 'tower' burger.
The young lady who served us was professional and friendly, while the barman did his best to accommodate my unusual request for a cocktail.
The venue is stunning, both inside and out.
Overall a very enjoyable afternoon.

Excellent food and staff in a stunning venue

We stayed as a family for a few days and ate in the restaurant on one evening. 

From the moment we checked in all the staff were really pleasant and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble and we genuinely felt that they were interested in providing a great experience.

For example, we arrived at the end of the service for breakfast on our first morning and before the staff cleared away the buffet we were asked if we required anything further rather than simply clearing the food away. On the second morning the waitress remembered our hot drinks order, which was a nice touch. I am only sorry I didn’t ask her name as they don’t wear name badges!

Our rooms were well equipped with complimentary tea, coffee, water, soft drinks and biscuits. Lovely Elemis products in the bathroom and good to see they are the refillable large bottles not the miniatures. The drinks tray is handily placed in one bedside cabinet and the fridge in the other. And - fresh milk not UHT!

Rooms were clean and very well serviced. The beds were really comfortable with additional pillows supplied if needed. 

Our evening meal was delicious with a good range of options - we had a hangar steak which was amazing and the skate. 

We would highly recommend this hotel and thank them for accommodating our teenage daughter who was in her own room located next to ours.

Lovely stay where all the staff are attentive, pleasant and helpful.

Wow! Brilliant stay - we arrived to be given a free upgrade due to it being my partners birthday. A birthday card left in the room from the staff, nice touch. An excellent dinner & breakfast. Cannot fault anything - thank you very much to all the staff who made my partners birthday weekend one to remember.

We had dinner, bed and breakfast here for our 20th wedding anniversary and our room was amazing!  Room 21 - it's huge and so is the bathroom with twin basins, enormous free-standing bath and separate walk-in shower.  

The food we had at dinner was really superb and the service attentive, friendly and very good.

The grounds are fabulous and our dog loved her stay too.  Finished off with a great breakfast, we just had the best time and would love to revisit.

We went in our vintage car, which Kesgrave Hall was a fantastic background for!

20th Anniversary celebration in style

We had our wedding here on 12th October and we were simply bowled over by how well the day went. Sarah and her team could not do enough for us. We stayed the night before and used the spa, ate in the restaurant and then our big day arrived and we were so well cared from the minute we arrived to the minute we left. Huge thank you to Sarah and all the hotel staff and to the girls who did our spa treatments- Ella and Rachel. Amazing! Thank you all so much.

Wedding 

Very nice hotel. Beautiful big room, very comfortable and friendly staff.  Good place for an early morning walk - the obvious, circular walk takes about a half hour and is lovely.  We found dinner at the restaurant okay, if somewhat over priced for what you get. Breakfast very good.

Lovely hotel

Stayed overnight for my birthday on a Sunday-based, DB&B deal. Good value but a few things to improve on; no acknowledgment of being a birthday stay despite stating it at reservation…we had the best room in the hotel already but a minor acknowledgment would have gone a long way. The room’s carpet is looking tired and needs at least a good spot clean and the TV is tiny in comparison to the size of the room.   There were no specials on the usual specials menu board and we later found out that a staff function was going on at a sister venue, resulting in skeleton staffing and therefore no specials. This was a poor decision that affected the enjoyment of the evening meal. So…a few things to put right at a very nice hotel that simply underperformed on the night.

We really enjoyed our stay and would like to return again.
The offer price for our 4 night stay made the cost reasonable and we were pleased to have the extra night.
The staff were mostly friendly, helpful and attentive. Thank you all.
Reception
Taking in our luggage, storing it and taking it to our room while we went to the Spa for our treatment was really appreciated, as was collection and taking to our car when leaving.
The return transfer from the hotel to the Spa was a real bonus as we were both suffering with our old legs at the time.
The wonderful but enormous heavy key attached to the room key is a real fun and practical idea but when moving around the hotel and spa or dining it was very unwieldy in a jacket or trouser pocket of the resident. (It meant that I was tempted to take it out of my pocket and leave it on the side, but I feared that then I may forget it).
Spa
The Spa treatment was exceptional with Emma and Laura. I have had many treatments in the past and this was the best I have experienced so far. Thank you to them.
Generally.
There were a few things that came up that needed the hotels attention but we have to say that they were dealt with very promptly and politely.
I would like to tell you of the elements that we personally feel could be addressed and for them to be considered as positive criticism and not a complaint. 
Accommodation
The stable door to the accommodation was really nice touch but the lock on the upper / lower section needed easing to work correctly.
The hall floor creaks badly but we realise this is not easily fixed and we accepted it as just a characteristic of the room.
The bathroom was great, with its large bath, separate shower, WC and large wash basin. It was a treat to get almost instant hot water when you needed it and the water pressure was more than adequate. The remote controlled rooflight was really useful to get a throughflow of air in the room and bathroom.
The radiator / towel rail, did not work when we arrived but once we reported it it was made to work very quickly and it was really hot. (A suggestion would be to have a controllable thermostat on the valve so that it could be adjusted to suit needs).
Some clothes / robe hooks and a shelf or two would be a bonus if possible.
The Lounge area was cute and the views over the grassed area was really nice. 
The small sofa wasn’t very comfortable but was adequate. (We used pillows from the bed for cushions. (The faux fur cushions on the bed were enormous, quite heavy and not much help).
The wardrobe / cupboard in this area was enormous and a great addition and gave bot storage and hanging space. (Sadly there were only 4 wooden hangers in this giant wardrobe. This proved just enough for us but we would have expected more (10 for 2 persons?). I decided to hang my trousers over the rail itself. No doubt if we had got round to bringing this to the hotels attention it would have been sorted quickly but we decided not to in this instance.
The chest of drawers are exceptional, deep and work well. They are a big feature in the room.
Bedroom:
The bed/s are enormous and quite comfortable only because of the mattress toppers. It is clear that the bases and mattresses are very old and ideally, I would suggest should be replaced.
The bed linen was beautifully clean and comfortable. Great. (Not sure I would want to use the over-blankets stored in the lounge cupboard / wardrobe. They just looked dusty and unpleasant. Luckily, we did not have the need for them)
The small refrigerator was really useful. Thanks. Being in the bedside cupboard meant there was no bedside drawer for night-time knickknacks, glasses, books, etc. We were pleased that the fridge was nice and quiet.
The bedside cabinets have been painted but the tops are particularly blemished and ugly and gives the impression of being unclean.
We found the tea tray in the other bedside cupboard and was loaded with all we needed. Siting the tray when in use was a bit of a problem and we ended leaving it on the top of the drawers next to the TV. (Somewhat crowded and inconvenient but adequate).
Sadly, the carpet has several stains and is looking somewhat jaded and did not add to the ambience of the room. 
The very large, heavy, enamelled metal light shades are really nice but I wonder if they should be checked over because there was a minor flickering from time to time that did not seem to be right. (Maybe the dimmer switches?)
It was excellent to find the aircon in the room. It worked very well being both quiet and adjustable in the room to suit the conditions.
Finally, the sash windows to the room are in good condition but they need some tender loving care and serviced to work properly. They open with a bit of effort but we had to get staff to close them for us so that they could be latched closed. (The widows are quite dirty and spiders / insects have taken up residence trapping dust and egg cases etc. between the frames. The net curtains are ripped and very dirty which is a shame).
Bar.
The older waiter in the bar area was not exactly accurate in his advice when asking for alternative for Bitter Lemon. His advice that Bitter Lemon was not made anymore was not a factual assessment. Also, Lemon Tonic is not anything like Bitter Lemon and the drink that I ordered was ruined by having this in lieu. (It became clear that the hotel uses the Fever Tree brand and that they do not make Bitter Lemon. This would have been a better response).
Dining.
Firstly, the breakfasts were stupendous. No further comment is needed.
The dinner was excellent too although it was a little bit disappointing that, as is becoming standard, potatoes are not peeled or scraped. I very much wanted the sole with new potatoes but as the potatoes would be small, jacketed type I did not order it. 
I had the pollock instead and the fish was excellent. It came with a very crispy hash brown bar.
The hash brown looked really good as a different texture and taste to the fish. I cut off a piece and was really looking forward to it. Sadly, it was extremely peppery, (white pepper?) and was so strong that I found it inedible. Disappointing.
Snacks.
As a diabetic, I found out that I couldn’t get a simple, light snack, (sandwich for instance), until after 10pm as per the Room Service menu.
(Incidentally, I had to ask at the bar if they had bar snacks to get a menu. It was under the counter. I had to go to reception to ask for the information on Room Service and menu. Surely this would be better in the rooms?).
Conclusion:
All these minor matters would suggest that we did not enjoy our stay but we did and we do hope that you find them helpful.
As I have said we would return but if a few of the above could be addressed and the walls given a lighter lick of paint, that would be fantastic.
We thank you all for remembering our anniversary, for the kind card, the “icing” on our dessert plates and the glass of sparkling wine during dinner.

4 day Break Room 17.

Room was smart enough and well equipped.

Noisy -with contractors mowing the lawn before 9am.

Breakfast standards were low, with pets being allowed in the eating area. The waitress was overly keen on clearing tables -whipping our plates away before we had finished with them. And treating customers differently -offering the choice of white or brown bread for toast to some guests and not offering that choice to other clients.

Room good, breakfast less so

The quality of the food and service is still the same, but the cheap low back chairs and tables, with many more squeezed into the same space, gives the restuarant the feel of one of those old British Home Stores cafeterias.  Some of the tables for two on the upper level are so close together that you may as well share the table with your neighbours.  Some of the old pictures have been reframed in cheap and nasty red plastic frames that only add to the down market effect.  Kesgrave Hall has now lost much of the sophisticated feel it had before.  Normally I think that their interior designers do a great job, but whoever did this redesign have done Milsoms a big disservice.  I really think the whole refurb is a huge backward step.
