First time visiting the Rockside but certainly won't be our last. Spent a lovely three nights here at the end of August/early September. The room was clean and had a wonderful sea view. The bed very comfortable and while the room was not the most spacious it was nice that a small table with a couple of chairs was situated by the window so we could enjoy the views of the beach and the castle. The bed and breakfast is run very smoothly - from collecting keys and parking permits from the key safes near the entrance to the breakfast ordering (which needed to be done by 8pm the night before), all was hassle-free. Breakfast was very nice - decent choice of cereals, fresh fruit, cooked full English, to smaller bacon/sausage/poached egg sandwiches. Generous servings of tea and coffee. Option to have orange or apple juice too.
The staff were really attentive and very friendly (the young lad was so polite and cheery) - some of the nicest I've met when staying in B&Bs in Scarborough. The owners were great and while we only saw them in the morning during breakfast they were always contactable if required. 
The bathroom was clean and the shower, while not the most powerful was hot and more than adequate. 
The location is perfect. Didn't need to use the car while visiting places within the town - 10 minutes in most directions would get you to the castle, the beach, Peasholm Park, or local restaurants and take aways. Parking was not an issue near the venue - just make sure you get a permit.
Breakfast area at front of property was light and spacious - tables were not squeezed in so you could enjoy your breakfast without being crammed in. Breakfast is served across two rooms depending on how many guests are booked in - it was fully booked when we visited but you'd never have known.
A real pleasure and hope to return asap!

One of Scarborough's Best

This is a perfect place for a seaside break, close to the beach.   We couldn't have asked for a better room- a bay window at the front overlooking the sea.  Clean and comfortable.
Darrel and Sarah made us feel very welcome.
Breakfasts were delicious.

Perfect seaside break

Stayed here for 3 nights,  excellent little hotel with stunning views across the north bay.  Parking wasn’t a problem straight outside the hotel,  breakfast was delicious and cooked fresh. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, will definitely stay again

Little gem

Firstly me and my other half was widely welcomed, the family run hotel is very friendly and helpful, helped me out with parking.

Bed was comfy, shower was was good

Breakfast was brilliant, love how’s it’s family ran and the young staff are so polite, helpful and friendly.

I would say this is a family run hotel that is family friendly and will meet the needs of your stay.

I stayed during hot times, so i would recommend asking for a fan.

Stayed 2 nights and found Darrel very pleasant host and always helpful. Breakfast excellent quality and honesty bar a great idea. View from lounge of whole of north bay, Easy walking to Peasholm and Open AIr Theatre although coming back up from promenade was a challenge for us. Read some comments about pre-ordering breakfast and paying to park. Not an issue to us. Pre-ordering is easy and speeds up service, and I'm sure Darrel would help if a change needed in the morning. Parking was made easy by hosts providing vouchers at £2 per day.... so much cheaper than the car parks, and there were always plenty of spaces around. Thanks for a great stay. Would be back if in Scarborough.

Great location and views

Just come back from a few days break here. What a beautiful B&B this is. Sarah and Darrel are lovely people and keep this place immaculately clean. We had a sea view room and couldn't find fault at all. Dont understand how anyone can give this place a negative review!!!! Seafront location with stunning views. Breakfast is pre ordered the night before which wasn't a problem at all and the food was gorgeous and cooked exactly how you requested it. The lady who served breakfast was lovely too. We would 100% stay here again and would highly recommend the Rockside to anyone

Fantastic place

Warm and very friendly welcome from Sarah on arrival, passed on some very useful tips for the surrounding area. Nothing was too much trouble for our hosts. Darryl always smiley and enquiring if need anything else. Room very clean and comfortable 
Breakfast extremely filling ( Yorkshire portions) and enough choices to have something different everyday. Order the night before is not a problem

Exactly as it says on the tin -brilliant stay

Have just read previous review , I think we were there at the same time as these guests. I think they just needed a bigger table ( sat at a 4 , but to be fair , kids could have sat on the end ) 
Stayed here several times and never had any problems , the hotel looks out onto the north bay so during the day car parking can be a bit difficult, we did get parked outside on arrival, but everyday after that just parked on side streets. ( permit was £1 a day )
I found all staff helpful and friendly ,  hotel was clean and well presented . Not a big deal to us to order food the night before , had the same thing all week anyway ! I quite like this system as it prevents waste of food and everyone congregating at the buffet. 
The rooms were clean and tidy , we spent most of the time out and about and the hotel is a good location to pop back to. 
Very good location for kids , close to peasholm park , beach etc. 
I didn’t encounter any rudeness in any way from staff , so don’t be put off by this previous review , it has been a tough 18 months and this is someone’s business after all. Will definitely return

Lovely break !

Friendly and efficient welcome from the two Spanish manageresses. Comfy room, with lovely view. Excellent cooked breakfast and all attractions within walking distance. Beach just below the cliff. Lovely and quiet at night. Would recommend for a short break.

Short comfortable break in Scarborough.

Only just returned home having spent the last 2 days at this hotel. On arrival this hotel definitely stood out from most of the other hotels in its location! And the views from its cliffside were amazing!

We were greeted instantly by who I think was the hotel owner, Sarah. The inside door is locked to monitor footfall into the hotel, and the owner was wearing a face covering. Hand sanitizer is available before entry.

We were checked in given our room keys and advised that breakfast was to be pre-ordered via their forms at reception and to be filled in before 8pm

Our room was the 2 bedroom family suite at the top. The reason I booked this hotel also as the rooms matched the photographs and they were 2 beds so my 2 children had a seperate room with a tv also. I booked the top suite as it looked the most spacious, and IT WAS! Also had a large bathroom with a bath and shower. The room was spotless so was very pleased! I thought the top bedroom (no.11)had sea views but was a back view which wasn't the greatest but I didnt spend my holiday looking out this window so wasn't too bothered. I think the other family 2 bedroom room has the sea views. Beds clean and comfortable, tea &coffee facilities which when you run out you helped yourself to more at reception. No complaints at all with the bedrooms.

Breakfast is pre-ordered and you select which time you would like to be seated at. Again no complaints at breakfast, hotel owner has cereals and juices ready on table as you arrive. Serves your tea/coffee and toast. Your english breakfast is then served once you finished cereals. Was delicious. My 8 year old and 2 year old ate very well.

The hotel had a lounge which has board games and a small bar. There was a sign in our room which advised to help yourself to drinks, take note of what you had taken and room number so you can pay on departure, however due to covid there was no drink stock. Due to this you are allowed to bring takeaway food to eat in dining room ONLY and you buy snacks and drink from newsagents near by to take upto room.

Opposite hotel is a little playpark down the cliff slightly following a small path and the hotel is also a 5min walk to Scarborough castle which you can see from the hotel or a 10min walk to the promenade front.

We would definitely return if we were visiting Scarborough again!
