The Westgate has flourished over the last couple of years. Ben has worked wonders!
I had a very comfortable night recently, and am returning again this week as a result. 

Special thanks to Lily for staying late to greet me and check me in. What an asset to the team!

Highly Recommended!

I stayed at the Westgate whilst working at the Coroner's Court, which is literally across the road (2 minute commute to work - hard to beat that!)

The room was very comfortable and nicely-presented, with an extremely comfortable bed. There were sufficient plug sockets and all the necessary toiletries, towels etc. It was a lovely place for me to work in the evening. A great value stay.

The pub below was welcoming and the food was good quality. Breakfast in the morning was also good although not served in a rush - absolutely fine for leisure travellers but perhaps just a little slow for me with work (but I could have allowed more time). 

Although there is no parking at the Westgate, the Tower multi-storey was literally a 5 minute walk away and this did not pose any problem. In the evening when I arrived there were hundreds of spaces to choose from. 

The location is extremely good for the castle, law courts and coroner's court, plus the local government buildings and registry office. The high street was also walkable. A good location in my view.

My only criticism of this lovely pub with rooms (and one which they can't do much about) is that there was a little bit of noise from rooms above in terms of walking on the floor, and some noise from below when the quiz night was on - but this did not disturb me and I would not hesitate to stay again if I work in that part of the world in the future.

Great value and really comfortable

Amazing. I love this place so much. It's not a far walk from the train station so when I got in late at night it was quick to walk to.

The bed was so comfortable. I don't know if I was just jetlagged or what because once I hit that mattress and those pillows, I instantly fell asleep. I was just so cozy. It felt like I was staying in a friend's home. 

The staff was so wonderful. I felt bad, I was just this clueless American hot off the plane and didn't know what was going on. They were so patient, kind, and accommodating. I loved chatting with them. 

The pub downstairs was an experience to behold. This is a pub I would hang out at. I wish I could have stayed longer so that I COULD hang out at the pub more. The breakfast that was included was delicious. I can't speak any better words as to how wonderful my stay at the Westgate was. I just wished I took more pictures of it!

The best place I have ever stayed.

Exactly what you'd want in a pub with rooms. Great atmosphere in the pub; right in the middle of the city centre, yet with very comfy and quiet bedrooms. Great staff too, with a twenty second check-in. Great job to everyone involved.

A great place to stay in Winchester

Visited the Westgate on a rainy weekend in Winchester, however the rain didn't stop us from having a fabulous stay!! 
The rooms are comfortable and clean and Ben and his team extremely welcoming!
Had a wonderful lunch on the Saturday afternoon and since the weather was wet we decided to stay in the bar and spend a cosy afternoon playing cards and enjoying the bar selection!! It was a lovely atmosphere with other families doing the same and felt very cosy.
Ben and his team were extremely helpful and friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. 
Breakfast was delicious too, a good start to the day before heading out to explore the city! 
Would definitely stay again when visiting Winchester! Thanks Ben and his team for a great stay!! 

Fabulous stay!

Me and my partner had a great time. We only stayed for one night, but we really enjoyed our stay! The room was very clean and the bed was so comfortable. That evening we ate down in the pub and the food was brilliant. Staff were very friendly and helpful too. Great location and all round a great place to stay, especially good for looking at the lovely historical buildings! Will definitely return.

Great, affordable stay!

We booked this hotel fairly last minute and got a good deal. It was 100% worth it. The room was more spacious than we expected with a comfortable bed and modern bathroom. We know winchester well so parking wasnt a problem for us and we decided to not have dinner or breakfast at the hotel as the location means its within walking distance of many restaurants and cafes. The staff were friendly and we didnt have any problems with the room. Its an old building which feels quite uneven underfoot but this didnt bother us and doesnt have modern things like air conditioning. The UK was having a bit of a heatwave when we stayed but the room had a wall mounted fan near the bed which helped. We would stay here again without a doubt. 

Fabulous small hotel in a great location. 

Excellent central location, walking distance to all of Winchester’s attractions. The room and bed were super comfortable. The staff was great, looking after everything I needed. The pub is super cozy, a great spot to rest, read a book and have a drink. Overall a great base for a visit to Winchester. I’ll definitely return. 

Charming, comfortable and cozy Inn

We had our wedding at the westgate and it was incredible! We had exclusive use of the pub which meant that we had total run of the pub and could lay it out how we wanted. 

Ben and his team were amazing throughout the whole planning process and I couldn’t thank them more. They were there for any queries I had and were never too busy to chat on the phone or even in person for any concerns I had or advice I needed. 

The staff stayed late the night before our wedding so that we could set up the pub how we wanted. They were so hands on and it meant I could have a relaxed morning with my bridesmaids. 

The wedding itself was flawless. Everything was done, Ben knew what was going on better than I did and any last minute changes were not a problem. 

The food! Oh my goodness. The food was amazing and everyone could not stop talking about it! We had some vet specific dietary needs which the chef accommodated to without any fuss. 

The bar staff were incredible and kept up with a very busy bar and shuffled around the pub without stepping on my very long train on my dress!

The rooms were lovely and breakfast was the perfect remedy in the morning. 

There is not one thing I would have changed!

Really warm welcome, good food, decent wine list and perfect to take the dog, who was spoiled with the treats they have on the bar
Most enjoyable, with a great team behind the bar. Have lived in Winchester 20+ years and just one of those places I haven’t been. Will definitely return.
