We popped in for a quick pint whilst on holiday in the area.  We couldn't have found a friendlier pub.  The staff are fantastic and the locals made us feel so welcome - we didn't want to leave.. So ordered a pasty, which was delicious and another pint!  What a lucky find

On a weekend break in the area around Millbrook - Popped into The D&C for a couple of drinks and a pasty after a long walk! I can honestly say - The warmest welcome we’ve experienced in pub for a long while. The team working the bar and the locals went out of their way to make us welcome. Will be popping in again before we leave… Customer service at its best.

The warmest welcome….

My wife and I stayed 2 nights over 10-11th December as we were working at nearby Mount Edgecumbe house. This was the closest and that was the original reason for selecting this pub. The building is old and the rooms are a bit higgley-piggeldy but that's the charm of an old building. It has 5 letting rooms - which are gradually being modernised. Our room was tired but clean and overlooked the road outside - but there was very little traffic noise in the room. The room itself was quite triangular - but that was the shape of the building and added to its charm. Mike and Kat had only taken over the pub 5 weeks previously and clearly they had settled in well with the locals, and were great hosts. Due to COVID their chef/cook was off and so Kat was catering. The food was great both nights and the breakfast (full English) was good quality food, cooked well. The evening menu is standard pub food with nothing fancy but I think it is better to limit the menu and do it well than try to please everybody and produce a substandard meal. In short, if my wife and I are travelling that way again we'll definitely stay there.

A Pub with atmosphere

This pub served very good Sunday dinner in three sizes. We order the small as we had eaten a while before and it was plenty. All the veg well cooked. Definitely would go again.
We also went there for the quiz and pizza night and we ordered the cheese and spinach pizza, it was great best pizza I have had in a long time. 

The staff were so friendly the barman loaned me £2 bless him so we could join the quiz, which we paid back a couple of days later.  We came.last but it was a bit of fun. Definitely a pub to visit they serve breakfast lunch and dinner

In the area for a wedding, this Inn was very welcoming, very clean and comfortable and the breakfasts were wonderful.  They allowed us to get changed in one of the rooms as the wedding was an early one at 12:00. Thank you we will be returning.

I really liked this place, the food in the bar was yum, the breakfast in the morning was great, You can have a full english or whatever combination you like.. 
The room was big and clean. It is an older building.. but that adds to its charm. 
The staff were very friendly and extremely helpful.. I cannot fault this place, I really liked it.. If I am ever in the area again.. I would stay here.



Cannot Fault - Lovely

We stayed here for a night on our touring holiday and the new people running the place made us feel very welcome. The room we had was newly refurbished and was lovely with everything you needed for a comfortable stay. There was even help showing us where to park he car overnight. We had drinks in the bar and the breakfast the next morning was delicious too. Great stay

Nice friendly service

We have just returned from a 4 night break in cornwall,we based ourselves at this quaint little pub,as it was a short drive to lots of places to visit,looe (35 mins) plymouth(40mins)the pub and room was very clean,and they adhered to the covid guidelines extremely well.the room we stayed in could have done with somewhere to hang clothes as the hooks provided were not really fit for purpose,the shower was powerful,the food good and for 60 pounds per night bed and breakfast the value for money is brilliant,we spent a few evenings In  the bar and the customers and staff were all very friendly,we will definitely stay again if in the area

A good base for a break!

Nice wee place. Rooms clean & spacious. When we arrived the bedrooms were freezing but after having a word with manager it soon got warm.. Food a bit repetitive.. Breakfast fine for 3 mornings 1 morning breakfast not to good..Toast was like a brick eggs not cooked..Coffee was already plunged & full of bits...

Quiant place

This was a last-minute booking, with little availability in the area, and it was relatively reasonable compared to other B&Bs, but as it was a working pub we were not sure what to expect.

Location and Parking:-The Devon & Cornwall sits directly on the main route through Millbrook, a bus route -but which is nevertheless very quiet. It does not have its own parking, but there are a few spaces opposite from 6pm until 9am, but during the day waiting is limited to 20mins..long enough to drop luggage off. We then found parking at the Village Hall a short walk away. 

Rooms:- There was a lot of redecoration being carried out, and we could see into some of those rooms and they seemed quite spacious. Our room (3) at the top of the first flight of stairs  had been the only one available and it was small but adequate and perfectly clean, with en-suite tucked away round a corner which had shower over the bath (no water pressure problems at all), and white fluffy towels of good size and little toiletries. The double bed had nice white bedding and no unnecessary cushions to discard! There was a wardrobe, bedside drawers with hairdryer, radio and alarm clock. There was a flat screen Tv on the wall, and a small table with kettle, bottles of water, tea/coffee/ biscuits. On the landing to floor 2 there was a small fridge and ironing board and iron. Towel changes ,water replenishment, bedmaking etc were mutually agreed upon day by day, and this service suited us fine. 
Sleep Quality:- The bed was comfortable.We were directly over the bar, and there was a low hum from a generator or extractor, but we got used to it. We could hear the live music one night, but it didn’t go on late, there was no traffic noise to mention except the binmen one morning, and that same morning  there was an early beer delivery (once a week)and the metal casks were being rolled over a stone floor beneath us. The landing outside creaked a bit. Suffice it to say I’m a very light sleeper used to absolute quiet at home, and I expect it was only this room that was affected and the pub has to function!

Breakfast:- We were asked to give an approximate time that we would like breakfast (between 7am and 9am).There was orange or apple juice, boxed cereals, tea/coffee, and breakfast cooked to order which was very nice.

Evening Meal:-There were remarkably few places to eat nearby in the evening ..(an Indian restaurant not open our first night (a Tue), and a fish and chip bar from what we could see. We did not want to drive to find somewhere to eat, as we like a drink with a meal, so it made sense to eat in the restaurant area of the pub for the 3 nights we were there. There was a menu plus specials, but Tue was curry night (curry plus pint or wine for £10), and they were remarkably good (maybe why the Indian doesn't bother to open!), Wed was pizza night (similar offer) and very good large pizzas .There wasn’t an offer on Thur night, but I had a nice steak from the main menu (steak night was going to be Friday ..after we’d gone sadly)and husband had fish and chips. All nice freshly cooked food and pleasant service.

Things to do in Millbrook:-As it was light evenings we walked off our generous meals with walks around the lake,  (some interesting birds to see) and estuary with its boats. It was a very quiet village, and nice weather, so very pleasant to walk about. There were 2 small supermarkets a literal stone’s throw from the pub for any additional needs.

Out and about:- this Northern part of Cornwall is relatively un-touristy. We visited pretty Kingsand and Cawsand, from where we took the passenger ferry £5 per adult each way across Plymouth Sound to Plymouth. It takes a half hour each way and we did it just for the return sea trip to see the coast. We walked up Rame Head, where I recommend visiting the Volunteer Coastguard station, to see what work they do logging shipping. Beyond Rame Head there are many places to access beaches. We stopped at Downderry for a long walk and paddle. There is a National Trust Property at Antony open Tue, Wed Thur..interesting house still lived in, nice gardens and good for a cream tea. Or for free entry (other than parking)for those of you who are not National Trust members, Council run Mount Edgecumbe has a grand house (we did not have time to go in), and extensive gardens, and craft outlets. At its coastal exit there is another very short passenger ferry across to Plymouth. So there is plenty to see in this pretty part of Cornwall..just avoid some of the lesser roads which are only car width!
