I’ve stayed twice in the last month and each time my experience has been excellent. The cleanliness of the rooms is great, the towels and sheets smell clean but with no detergent residue. I’ve stayed on the 5th floor both times and it’s been quiet, producing restful sleep. The bathroom is well stocked and the shower warm and easy to regulate. The room thermostat was set at a comfortable temperature but is also easy to regulate up and down. I didn’t try the continental breakfast because my UMass student treated me to breakfast in the Worcester dining hall which was outstanding! I used to stay off campus when visiting my student - from now on will choose Hotel UMass every time!

Very clean and quiet room

We were attending an event (Antiquarian book fair)  located on campus and this was extremely convenient! Our room was very clean, bed comfortable, and amazing view!  There are many very good food options in the building too. We were very happy with our stay and would recommend. Check in was easy, with friendly service! Continental breakfast was fine, very good pastries. Our casual interactions with students were very pleasant!

Clean, comfortable and convenient!

We stayed at this hotel when visiting Umass to watch a hockey game.  Everything was so easy to get to including Amherst.  Very new and clean with modern amenities like refillable bottles and clean air filters.  bathrooms are small but spotless.  Don't need to go outside to get to garage or many eating options downstairs.

Perfect hotel on Umass campus

My friend and I were in the area to attend a Baby Shower and stayed over night.  It was excellent.  The room with a view was very nice!  Devin at the front desk was very helpful and friendly.  He not only recommended a restaurant for dinner, he made the reservation for us.  I made sure to let the Hostess know as well the Hotel recommended them.  There is plenty of parking in the garage.  When I visit my friends, I will stay there again.

Absolutely Lovely!

A great find in the center of the UMass campus! Modern, spacious, and clean rooms. Rates include parking in a connected garage and a delicious breakfast available in the hotel lobby. Pleasant and courteous staff as well! Would definitely recommend for a visit to campus or a trip to Amherst.

Top-notch and convenient Campus Hotel

Great hotel in a convenient location!  Pros:  easy access to the campus, quiet, great student (and visitor) dining options in the same building.  The room was very clean and quiet.  The bed was extremely comfortable, and the pillows are super fluffy and abundant.  Cons:  TOO COLD.  I got to my room and it was 66 degrees.  I quickly found the thermostat does absolutely nothing.  One morning I woke up and it was a comfortable 74 degrees in the room, but the temperature more often hovered around 69 degrees.  I made frequent trips outside to warm up.  Also there's a 2" gap under the door to the hallway.  Conversations easily travel under the gap.  I feel like a small autonomous robot could easily access the room by scooting under the door.

Book now for 2020 if you want to get in to this "best- location" hotel, and be prepared for a 3 night minimum stay. You have to plan a year in advance for graduation weekends!  I was excited to be able to stay on campus with a very short walk to the graduation location for my Masters Ceremony. The Hotel UMass offers a great college campus experience as it is literally in the middle of the campus and located above the student store and other campus eateries.  I had my 14 year old daughter along for the sneak-peek snapshot at campus life.  The is a nice breakfast spread and the modern lounge is a great gathering place. 
We loved heading downstairs to eat with many offerings which ranged from exotic to organic!
 An underground tunnel to the parking structure offers protection from the elements, but I would recommend suitcases with wheels, as there is no valet or bellman. One improvement suggested might be the AC control in the room, as it took a while to catch up to the finicky May weather- cool, then humid- hot, then cool.

   

"Graduation Weekend- Best Location!"

You can beat the location for a campus visit to Umass. The rooms are gorgeous and full of amenities.  Parking is free and plentiful. No noise and nice bathroom. Complimentary breakfast could be nicer with either a waffle station or hot eggs.  All in all a nice place to stay.

Visit to Campus

We stayed the first weekend in November, and initially planned to stay only Friday night. Upon check-in, we opted to stay Saturday night, as well, and they were able to accommodate us. 

The room is not super big, but it worked for us and our dog. The ac/heat had a delay and sometimes the room was hot and sometimes cold. We also had issues logging into the wifi. We were not receiving the text confirmation needed to complete the log in process. This was alleviated by calling the front desk. They gave us different log in credentials and we had no issues after that. The bed is pretty comfortable, but the water in the bath could be hotter for showers. The hotel was super quiet at night and we got good nights rests both nights. 

The hotel was a great place for us to stay while visiting our daughter, who is in her third year at UMass. We've always stayed off-property, in Hadley, so it was great to not have to continually drive to campus. We enjoyed a glass of wine in the lobby each night before going with our daughter to Wocester Commons for dinner. The wine was good and reasonably priced. The lobby area was comfortable, and we loved having our dog there, too.

The hotel offers a continental breakfast, and I have to say I was very impressed with the gluten free options. Gluten free bread, bagels and muffins were individual package and labeled, and there was a dedicated gluten free toaster. UMass Dining does an amazing job with dietary issues and their hotel is no exception. 

We checked out around 8am on Sunday, November 3rd. I noticed a charge for $50 each day for our dog and questioned the student at the desk. The bill said Pet Fee - $50 per stay and that was how I understood the policy. That we would only be charged once. She said it was per day. I questioned her again, since "per stay" would not indicate that. She said it was in fact, per day. I told her that they should change the wording on the bill to "per day" if this was the case. She said she would pass my feedback on to her manager. I then questioned her one last time if she was sure it was per day and she said it was. 

Once I got in the car I looked the website. It clearly states;

I called the hotel and spoke with a different person. She acknowledged that the printed policy was correct and that she would connect with her manager to have my excess charge reversed. She took my phone number and email, and I have yet to hear anything. 

I understand that students are working at the hotel as a way to learn real-world, practical skills as part of a hospitality degree program. One of the most important lessons should be to ask someone else if they are not sure about something. I would not have thought any less of her for double checking about my inquiry. Conversely, I think much less of her for just bluffing, letting the wrong charge to stay and making me jump through hoops to try to get my money back. I hope the manager sees this and addresses it with her. This student needs additional customer service training before she starts her career.

Erroneous Charge / Front Desk Staff Member Needs Training

Good: Clean room, comfy bed, nice staff.

Bad: No microwave. Could rent a fridge if any available. Continental breakfast was ok. No room service. Food court closes at 6pm. No USB ports. Thermostat difficult to control. Could hear voices through the walls and from the halls due to door gap and toilets flushing. Weird dirty looking cement building.
