We stayed in the christina room. Sizable room and bathroom, very clean, didnt hear a peep from the restaurant/bakery downstairs or anything from the street. Comfortable bed.  Hotel is located right in the middle of everything. Walk to the beach, harbor, restaurants. perfect spot.

great stay

We stayed in the Christina Room and it was perfect for us.  The room was so pretty, victorian like.  The bed was very comfortable and the A/C cranked!!  It was extremely  humid the weekend we were there so having A/C was a must.  The Ashley House is centrally located to all and the bakery downstairs was great for breakfast (they gave us discount coupons upon check-in).  I didn't hear any noise from the bakery in the morning, but maybe it was because our room was located in the middle of the hotel.  I highly recommend the Christina Room if you plan on booking the Ashley House.  It felt like home away from home!

Comfy Cozy

This was our third time staying in the Ashley House.  It is so convenient to the ferry and all that Water Street has to offer.  We stayed in the Alicia room this time, and it was my favorite room yet.  The neighbors played loud music for bit, but by 9:30 it was off.  The bakery downstairs is awesome, with a vast variety of pastry and coffee in the mornings, and ice cream available at night.  The restaurant attached to the bakery has great food as well.  We usually go and spend a couple of nights on BI every summer, and this is the only place that I look at to stay.

Haven't been disappointed yet

This is one of many times I've stayed at the Ashley House.  I've been a Block Island tourist since the early 1970's ( I was a kid then on the family boat).   Once I started to stay at Block as an adult and later with my wife in one of the B&B's or old time hotels, cleanliness, up to date accommodations, roomy rooms (some were stupidly small), AC, TV, were not always available and it can still be that way there.  

The Ashley House, each time I've stayed there, is uniquely clean, private, up to date shower, double sinks, roominess, tv, ac, and even a refrigerator were all present.
Aldo's Bakery is right below and you can breakfast in the morning as you step out.
I know the Block well.  I know its overpriced, especially the food but the island is as beautiful as there is on the entire east coast, period.  The staff at the Ashley is the best.
Our room was always properly cleansed and best of all is the $100 bill left on my ready made bed pillow that the maid found in our room and returned it!  That's class....
If you want to stay out of the Island proper (which is beautiful) then maybe the Ashley is not for you since its right in the center of town.  But we never had a problem with noisy neighbors and the restaurant closes around ten pm, Bakery at 11pm and at that time the island almost completely closes for there night.  

Many hotels at the Block can be "musky" as my wife often says, the Ashley inside is clean with up to date rooms which is a must when staying on Block Island.  Last August we were there for ten days.

Great Location and Clean

My husband and I, and two other couples, just spent the past two nights at The Ashley.  Rooms and bathrooms were lovely.  We stayed in the Alicia room.  Very pretty.  I had read that there were noise issues with the bakery below, but we did not hear any noise whatsoever.  Upon checkin, we were given four coupons (1 for each night for each of us) to receive a complimentary coffee/juice and pastry, or receive $3.00 off breakfast.  

One complaint........we had seen workers in the hallway and had given one of them some money and asked if he would bring us some ice. He said he would.   Never saw him again and did not receive the ice.  :(  Not a big deal, but if he did  not want to get it, he should not have taken the money.

I have also read that the beds were uncomfortable.  I have a rod in my back and had no issues WHATSOEVER.  My husband, on the other hand, could sleep on a rock if he had to.  Bed was very comfortable.

We both agreed when we decide to stay again on the island, we will definitely stay here.  Thank you for the lovely accommodations!!!

Lovely place to stay!

Awful awful bed! Took me 2 hours before my back felt right again and I don't have a bad back!!! My wife said it was her most painful sleep ever before I even told her I could barely move. Even the spare pull out bed was missing a wheel which supported the frame! It's time management checked these out.

Nice Staff, Clean room, BackBreaker Bed!

The second night a couple came back to their room around 1 am and proceeded to argue/rant for hours. Other guests asked them to be quiet to no avail. Some guests started screaming obscenities as them. I tried calling the property manager only to get a voice mail that said they had no overnight desk staff and the number for the night watch was on the front desk of the hotel you check in at (a different location from where you stay).  So at 4 am, I left my children alone in the room, walk out onto the street and around the corner to get the number for the night watch.  I called them, but they had bad reception and couldn't hear me.  I called four times.  Finally at 5 am, I get a text from them asking how they can help.  I send back a text explaining what's happening.  I heard NOTHING for 25 minutes, only to get a text back saying, "Are they loud now too?"  I couldn't believe the lack of security or service.  I complained to the front desk staff the next day and they apologized and let me know those guests were checking out.  Two nights later, two couples are int he same room and the same thing happens - they come back to the room around 1:30 and start partying.  At 2:30, I texted the night watch.  They never responded and never came to the building to check it out.

So, although the location is great and the rooms were clean and nice, I wouldn't stay here again as there is no sense of security or service when an actual issue arises.

Party hotel, no onsite staff or security, stay here if you don't want to sleep!

We have stayed here 3 times and the place has gone downhill.
The toilet was unstable and unsafe.
The noise level from the workers below early in the morning is horrible.
The maid was so lazy she did not bother to sweep the small amount of sand on the bathroom floor and left the towels all over the floor.   the carpeting is all curled up and worn out.  Last year we had a fridge, this year there was none.   the blow dryer worked for all of 30 seconds and died.  When I told the front desk the girl said she would let the manager know and I never heard from the manager.  I guess they just don't care and we will find a new place to stay next year.
