What a tremendous event we had at the Hotel Baker! We did a fundraiser for the St. Charles History Museum and the Salas family were so accommodating! Staff was on the top of their game from start to finish. The Hotel looked spectacular and we were excited to see the newly remodeled rooms. What a treat! Highly recommended if you are visiting or if you are just looking for a fun stay-cation!

A Real Jewel In Downtown St. Charles, Illinois!

Great hotel with beautiful character!  Clean, comfy. Staff all very friendly and helpful. Easy walking distance to restaurants and Arcada Theater.  Special praise is deserved for Rowena- we had an very gross and unfortunate mishap with my jacket the night before we were to fly home. She took my jacket and washed it, then wrapped it as a present- had it waiting for me at the desk at check out. This was amazingly above and beyond kind of service.  We were just looking for a hose to rinse it through and a garbage bag to keep it from contaminating our suit case, but instead, I was able to wear it the next morning (which was rainy and chilly for us Florida folk!!). Rowena was the best and we will gladly stay in Hotel Baker the next time we come for a concert at the Arcada!!

Great hotel with wonderful service!!

I booked a breakfast with Santa at this hotel for 8:30 a.m. on the first Sunday they offered it. We arrived a few minutes early and were seated right at 8:30. There are 2 floors. The smaller tables are on the second floor where we sat. The buffet is on the first floor but easy to get to. Everyone working there was very friendly and the service was great. There was a large variety of food items to choose from and all of it was very good.   After eating, you walk over to Santa and get a photo taken. You can buy the photo if you want to. There is also face painting available.  
My grandchildren are 3 and 1. They had a great breakfast and even sat on Santa’s lap. 
We plan on going next year. Great experience.

The staff was terrific with the wedding guests during the frantic weekend.  The wait staff rocked and the bartenders were professional and friendly. The hotel is lovely, the breakfast tasty and the back garden is well tended. Plenty to do in town during your stay so no worries about that.

Worth the hype

We hosted our daughter's wedding here. Outstanding service. Clean rooms. Historic setting. Excellent staff. The food was amazing. Kelly and Jay were great to work with. They were on top of every detail.

Wedding reception and overnight stay

I love historic hotels and this might be my favorite.  It’s cozy and comfortable.  The linens, bed, and decor rival the nicest hotels in Chicago.  What I love about this hotel is that the owners found the original furnishing that had been sold off and brought them back to the hotel.  Amazing original details can be found in every room, hallway, ballroom, etc.  The garden in back is wonderful to visit in the summer.  The staff is friendly and the restaurant is decent (used to be better but still acceptable).  The Baker Hotel is now the bar that all future historic hotel stays will be judged by.

A gem

Great look and feel here.  The hotel is almost 100 years old and is very cool.  Our room was updated with new carpet and sheets and furniture.  Great king bed and quaint room with old historic feel.  The sound does travel as the original walls probably don’t have the construction/insulation that is required today.  Room prices aren’t great but they’re not terribly overpriced.  Lots to eat and drink in area.  Hotel is right on the Fox River and awesome location.  Staff was friendly, but we didn’t ask for much.  We are seasoned professionals :)

I would revisit for an anniversary or another one night getaway...

Not a wedding, just a couple’s visit review

We stayed overnightf or a family wedding which was at a nearby church and the reception was here.  The recpetion was outstandiing. The Rose Garden was Pre reception and the weather was perfect along with the staff. Very accomodating service. The dinner was good and the venue is great for anyones wedding reception.  Our room was better than expected for such an old hotel. Not huge but adequate for an overnight stay.  Dont expect "brand new" or a road side hotel like a Hampton Inn.  Dont stay here then if you expect that. This is old and charming.  Just two criticisms. The pillows were horrible.  I cant express that enough. All of them were hard like the foam had broken down. I really didnt get any rest and finally took the robe out of the closet and rolled it up to use as a pillow.  Also, the drain in the tub was totally clogged so I had about 4 inches of water around my feet after showering. I did share this at check out and the person made a note of it.

Attending for a wedding and reception

When for a wedding reception with dinner. The food and service isn’t once what it was. 

We were rushed through every course and the food was fair. Coffee was watered down and cold, both cafe and decaf.  Sever spilled a glass of water on a guest and was casual.  Someone from our table asked for more rolls and the server said rolls are limited but will check.  If you are saying you’re a great restaurant why would you say bread is limited.

Not so good

The location along the Fox River and across the street from restaurants, pubs, etc. is great. The hotel is on the Historic Register as it should be. The rooms could use a better and more routine cleaning. Service is just okay; on Saturday trash baskets were not emptied; although we put bath towels and floor mat, for 'reuse' none were straightened and re-hung. No new face towels were provided. We were originally put into a room on second floor, immediately above the ROX bar; we had to move to a similar room on 4th floor since the band on Fri and Sat night might just as well be in your room!
