Portland Harbor Hotel

What was good

Conveniently located in the Old Port district, easy walking distance to lots of restaurants, shops, and the waterfront. We visited during Christmas weekend, when a lot of restaurants in the area were either closed or fully booked, so we were delighted to find the the hotel restaurant, Harbor Bistro + Terrace, was excellent, with tasty, often inventive offerings and friendly service. A little on the pricey side for what you get, but not out of line for a hotel restaurant that is notches above the cheap coffee-shop venues at many hotels. Our "junior king suite" was tastefully furnished, clean, and comfortable. Not cramped, but not as roomy as I'd hoped. The mattress was exceptionally comfortable. Best of all, from my point of view, the room was blessedly quiet; we had an inner courtyard room, so heard virtually no noises from outside, and we were surprised how few sounds or vibrations intruded from inside the building — we heard conversations in the hall outside our room, but otherwise virtual silence.
