The place was clean, neat and the staff friendly, Every morning was fresh fruit, coffee and donuts, etc. for breakfast.  The kitchen was large and clean. We didn't noticed any criminal or drug activity. There was a patio with grills, tables and chair.  You cannot beat this place for the price'

Otherwise this experience was pretty bad.  We saw photos of where we were going to stay on TA and on another site.  We made reservations... when we showed up, we discovered that the building was in a remote location in an industrial area (1708 Riverfront Studio Suites).  On a weekend that is pretty isolated.  No office.  So we called the office number and discovered that we had to go to a different location (this one, on Lind Ct) to check in.  So the properties apparently share an office and the property we made a reservation at was the “Riverfront Studio Suites” but we stayed at the “Riverside Suites.”  VERY CONFUSING.  The first building looks newer BUT we looked at the people moving in to the units and decided that without an office we were in for a night of listening to heavy partying, maybe worse.  No thanks.

We went to the main office in this building (Lind Ct) and it looked ok.  It was a motel and appeared to be average or better than others in the area.  We got a room at this property.  I will note that this property is right next to a Hardees and across the street from a gas station, so it is a higher visibility area in which to leave your vehicle.

We both smelled cigarette smoke when we walked in on a Saturday afternoon.  This is supposedly a non-smoking building.  There is a very nice patio with chairs right outside the front door so we thought the smoke was from outside.  We wanted to use the patio but there were smokers there both days.

As we walked down the hall to our room, I was assaulted by odors: a cigarette smoke seemed to ooze out of the walls and when we walked past a bathroom in the hall, a very strong sour odor was present.

Our room: all day Saturday and Saturday night, it reeked of cigarette smoke.  We were in town for a concert, so we thankfully were gone for Saturday evening until late, otherwise we would have been forced to leave.  It was so strong we had to go to a pharmacy in town to get Benadryl for me.  This was supposed to be a non-smoking building and there was a lot of smoke in it.  We didn’t smell anything on the bedding or coverlet, but the walls stunk.  Our room, 109, and apparently the rest of the building needs to be cleaned by a professional smoke remediation service (we’re landlords, we know there are companies that do this in Minnesota).  

Weirdly enough, the stench was less on Sunday morning, possibly with the number of people leaving the building and air flow from the front door.  We couldn’t get out fast enough.

That really made the stay miserable but also the poor quality of the beds impacted us too.  We got a room with two beds but only used one.  When we walked in and put a back pack on the bed near the window, it crunched.  Like stepping on a bag of chips only several times louder.  We looked under the sheets to discover it was just a super-cheap mattress.  Completely unusable as each time you moved while sitting on it, it made very loud noises.  We both tried to sit on it and decided we would just crowd into one bed.  Good thing my husband and I get along, as the other bed was like a big hammock.  It was so broken down you couldn’t sit on the edge and put on your shoes without rolling backwards.  

After our concert, we got back to the motel at 11:20 pm.  Walking down the hall, metal was blasting out of Suite 104.  Nice.

Amazingly, we actually slept.  Could’ve been the drinks and Benadryl, as well as brown noise broadcast from an iPad.

Sunday morning I needed to use the electrical outlet next to the one very deep sink (which looked like a surplus scrub sink from a hospital).  I grabbed the end of the cord for the in-wall hair dryer and was immediately grossed out: the end and cord was heavily coated with dark, orangey grease!  That’s never been cleaned!  There were only three accessible electrical outlets we could find.  One below the window, one next to the sink, and one behind a bed that was sort of accessible.  There was a fourth inaccessible one behind the TV.  The one behind the bed did NOT have an electrical plate on it; that probably is not Code, AND if a small child finds it, they will get a nasty shock.

The room had a full-size refrigerator-freezer as well as a lot of storage and shelving so the room would be good for an extended stay.  You would need to do quite a bit of cleaning as there were a lot of food crumbs still left on the shelves when we moved in and everything was streaky-dirty.  The refrigerator/freezer was pretty clean but rusty.  

The ceramic floor was very well done but when I walked across the floor my Tevas stuck to it.  There was a lot of what looked to be white dog hair on the floor too.  We don’t have a dog.

It was hard not to notice that there had been a lot of repainting of the ceiling in spots (we were on the ground floor), and that there were dark spots on the ceiling.  Water leakage?  Mold?  I don’t know for sure.  Also hard not to notice was that the curtain was off of its hangers and that the window was very dirty.  

This is a 2 instead of a 1 because the young woman who checked us in on Saturday was very professional and polite.  The woman working on Sunday morning was polite too but seemed wary.     

Would never stay here again.

quick over night stay, for the use of "Suites" in the name of this hotel is misleading- seems as though they updated the lobby and hallways- the rooms are trash- UGH, can't see myself staying there ever
