If you are ready for a different place to stay, head to Unionville NV. The old pioneer garden country inn will be a surprise,  and one that will please you if you have a vision of being out of the mainstream as pleasant. A Thursday night in mid October really added to the isolation for a one night stay.

Come for the definition of Remote 

This place is a rare gem of Nevada history and modern conveniences of today’s world. Great old houses, carefully and wonderfully furnished, great hosts, Mitzi and Dave provide a very large and healthy breakfast, advice and information about Unionville and the surrounding area and leave you alone to enjoy the restful peace and quite of the canyon where the bed and breakfast is nestled. We had family from the age of 7 to over 70 and everyone felt it was like home but quieted and star struck.

A great place for a large family to visit

There are three houses, each with comfortable beds and plenty of space for group gatherings. Each house has a kitchen for preparing lunch and dinners. Plenty of kitchen ware. Various wild animals will often be seen near the houses. Breakfast is served in the hosts’ home. A wonderful and peaceful place, hiking trail and several of the buildings date back to the 1860s

A great getaway and into Nevada’s historical past

Unionville is an interesting little town that is off the interstate.  It is very quiet and  offers a unique experience for visitors.  Dave and Mitzi were great hosts. The breakfast was plentiful and delicious.

A refreshing break from the typical hotel/motel experience.

If you are looking for someplace to unwind and get away from technology, this is the place! There is no cell service or wifi. My boyfriend and I were traveling alone but ended up getting a whole cottage to ourselves. The cottage dates from the late 1800's and it definitely shows but it was quaint, well maintained, and kept us warm in the chilly nights.This is not the Ritz, if you are expecting spotless lodgings and a turn down service, this is not the place for you. For those looking for adventure, amazing breakfast, and gracious hosts then look no further! I can't say enough good things about David and Mitsy! We're definitely planning another stay in the spring! 

An absolute gem of a find!

We don't like to stay at generic motels so I picked this place even though it was 20 miles off the interstate and had no wifi or cell phone access.  We bought food for dinner knowing we had a kitchen but otherwise were clueless about what we were getting.  Turns out it was a whole house that belonged to the assayer for the silver mine that was there in the 1860's.  It was wonderful - full of things collected by Mitzi.  I kept wandering around just trying to take it all in.  We had wine on the porch and watched the sun set.  We had a TV and lots of VHS (??) and DVDs.  There were games and books everywhere.  The only drawback was that the heat in the living room didn't work and we couldn't reach the owners without going out but the heater in the bedroom was good and we just moved it around.  Our bed was very comfortable and cozy.  In the morning we had a delicious breakfast at Mitzi's house and lots of good conversation.  I was ready to stay another night but we had to move on.  Do bring whatever food you will need.  The coffee pot is a flat bottom one but you need to bring your own coffee if you can't wait for breakfast where perfectly delicious coffee was served.  I hope we can get back some day for a longer stay since we only had time for a short walk into the canyon.

An amazing find

I understand why some reviewers give this property a 5 and some give it a 1. It is both. I have heard about the Old Pioneer Garden Inn for literally decades, but this was my first visit. Unionville is a ghost town and this is the only lodging. It is 20 miles from the nearest freeway, I-80, in a peaceful setting along a rushing creek with Cottonwoods and tons of birds. The primary inn keeper is an elderly woman who has been there for 46 years and cooks a good old fashioned country breakfast. She is delightful. Her son is obviously the handyman and very cordial. The "housekeepers" that may have been there in the past are gone. There are a variety of buildings converted from their 1861 beginnings into lodging units. We stayed in a building with old fashioned tile and wood floors and modern bathrooms. There are two bedrooms, each with queen beds and private baths with showers (one with a tub, as well). The kitchen is fine for cooking one's own dinner, if you don't feel like driving 20 miles to a country store for dinner. (We drove and were rewarded with 99 cent tacos, wine, and Grandma's peach pie.) Also, take your own coffee and/or tea. The cottage was charming - each room with shelves and stacks of books. The bed linens were crisp, clean, and historic. The mismatched towels could have a string hanging here or there, like visiting Grandma's house. The downside is that it is dirty. The outside desert dirt was tracked inside, and dead bugs and grit were on the windowsills. I imagine that both work their way inside in typical desert winds. Of greatest concern is the re-use of the same bars of soap that the last guests used. In other words, it felt like Grandma's house. My suggestion is that if you love a unique setting and want an adventure, go for it. Take your own coffee, soap, and shower shoes, and have fun. You won't find many other places like this.
