We decided to book the Hayesville Express instead of booking a room for the night in Wichita. It was a great choice. Right off the exit but away from the highway, this two story traditional motel was easily accessible. Free parking at your door. $60 room with a $10 pet fee. Staff was very friendly and competent. Grounds were pristine. Room was spacious, clean and relatively quiet. We had a mini-fridge, microwave, two sitting chairs and table. Bed was king with double pillows. Vanity separate from bathroom. Internet was free and reliable. The motel was walking distance to a convenient mart, Sonic and Subway. Breakfast was ok with biscuits and gravy. It was a great bargain for a one night stay as we continued our trip home from the southwest.

Great Bargain Along the Kansas Turnpike

When booking this hotel, I thought I got a steal on a Holiday Express Inn. Still, based on reviews, I was not disappointed to stay at a non-chain hotel once I figured it out.

'Twas a recipe for disaster when I arrived. My room had been "changed" for whatever reason though, since I'd never been there, I felt no change. But when I went to my room, which was literally the furthest door from the office, my key did not work. Went back to office and still no go. Went back to office again and still no go. On the fourth try, the trainee accompanied me and changed the door battery. Great. Think her name was Michelle and she was great.

Overall, not a bad stay at all. If I'd gone in blindly, I think I'd be fairly impressed. I appreciate the non-chain aspect but those are usually a little cheaper. I paid right around $71 which is slightly cheaper for the area but nothing major. 

The area is decent. Maps kept me off the nearby toll roads and that's about a 4-mile trip from the final free exit. Much closer/quicker if you want to pay the minimal toll. I was about three miles from the bbq place I enjoyed, and three miles down a big road from the Walmart in Derby. In other words, plenty of spots nearby. A gas station is right next door and a Sonic is just across the street.

Overall, everything worked well. Bed was comfy and clean. Shower had pressure and was clean. Fridge did not seem cold by feel but worked well. Room had fridge and microwave, standard cable channels. No problems with wi-fi, was able to park right outside room. Admittedly I do like my chain hotels for familiarity, but I'd definitely consider staying here again.

In my estimation the room was priced slightly on the higher side for a drive up room.   Room clean but not spectacular.   Freezing drizzle overnight and windy.  Plastic cup kept circulating in the parking lot close to our room.  Occupants in next room had TV on all night long.  Not super loud but loud enough to hear.    Breakfast was the normal fare with eggs.  Went to breakfast in morning and when I returned to room key wouldn't work.

I had reservation through Priceline for a Saturday June 10 stay.  The hotel called at 4 pm day of arrival saying our room had a leak and he was sorry it wouldn’t be available that night.  I had not prepaid so no recourse but search for another location.  I am confident our room was actually sold to someone who probably paid more.  Not out $ but was upset as we had a dog and it’s harder to find hotels on a summer Saturday night that allow dogs and aren’t $200 per night.  Very disappointed with this hotel.

Have a Backup Hotel

We stayed at the Haysville Express. Our family rented two rooms, 103 and 104. The garbage in the parking lot and sidewalk should have been the first red flag. 

The rooms were sad to say… dirty. There were light bulbs missing in the lamps, black dog hair on the floor and on the bedding. The tub needed a good cleaning. Our coffee packets were opened.

 The breakfast or should I say, what breakfast? At 7:30, everything was empty except for 2 biscuits, a plain donut and a heel of bread., no coffee, no gravey, no eggs, no fruit, no muffins….etc.

 The front desk person was nonexistent. We rang the bell and asked him to refill the food and coffee. He bought out a few biscuits but what would you put on them? Then he disappeared and didn’t come out to anyone who rang the bell.

My advice would be to pay alittle more and rent a nice clean place to stay .

Pass this place up

Noisy kids in the next room kept us awake banging until 2am.  Called multiple times to have management take care of it but thier attempts were futile.  The lobby is shabby, disheveled and smelled of old cigarettes.  The room was clean enough.

Would not stay again.

I have stayed at this hotel for years. I took a break a couple of years ago because the hotel became run down. Then they remodeled and I went back. However, it slowly fell into disrepair again but was still a good place to stay. Until my trip in February. It took four tries with five different keys to try to get into my room. The receptionist finally told me I would need to come to the front desk whenever I needed to get back into my room. Also, my toilet did not work, my shower would flip to scalding hot, and there was mold everywhere in the bathroom. I also found stains on the "clean" sheets that had to be changed. And the owner ignored me when I reported it.
