My friend had her husbands 40th birthday tonight at the Temperance House. It was a surprise party. The staff could not have been more accommodating. The room was beautiful When the owner Kathy realized we were a larger party than expected she personally brought another table out to accompany all the guests. The servers, especially Josie and the bartender in the room with flamingos on his pants could not have been nicer. If you live in the area or want a cool spot to get great food at a reasonable price check out the Temp!

40th birthday surprise

Charming inn, lodging, and excellent staff.  Delicious dinner in the quaint tavern.  Inn doesn't have a parking lot; but there was ample parking on the side street.  I was at the inn for a week and liked it so much that I'll be bringing my wife next time!

My Colonial Home Away From Home!

The Temperance House is a very nice hotel. It follows the historic tradition of rooms above the tavern. Excellent location! There is plenty of street parking, but just be sure to check the signs for time limits. The rooms have character and are not cookie cutter. Everything was very clean and the restaurant serves amazing food! The innkeeper (Kathy) is also very nice. I would stay there again.

Good value, great location 

Chose Temperance House after recommendation from a friend who lives in the area.  We were looking for a change of pace (usually stay at Golden Plough when in Bucks County) and "The Temp" didn't disappoint.  Got there early for check-in so we had lunch and drinks in bar.  Nick was great, drinks were good and food plentiful & tasty.  Check-in was easy and painless.  Kathy (the owner) handed off key, gave us overview of hotel and couldn't have been more nice.  After returning late from our evening out (11PM or so), Kathy was still there at the reception desk and offered us a more in depth tour of the hotel.  Glad we accepted her offer. The history that is associated with this hotel is spectacular.  We were in room # 1 (Edward Hick's Suite).  Even though updated to modern-day standards, you could still picture George Washington or other Revolutionaries staying here.  The floors were amazing to look at.  Would definitely stay again!  Thanks, Kathy, for a great experience. If you want charm, history, good value, food and drinks, visit "The Temp".

Awesome Overnight Getaway

A nice small historic hotel in the very center of Newtown. The staff are trying to keep the feeling of being in a historic place. Breakfast (virtually non-existent) can be greatly improved especially since there is a restaurant on the ground floor of the same building. The 5-start rating is given for the effort and the right direction where the hotel is going. Continue doing the good work. You finally have a potential.

A historic hotel in a historic town

The staff could not have been better. Now, my room was very small, but I like a coy room. They do have larger rooms. I chose the Ghost Porter room which is supposedly haunted by giggling. I did hear the bar music, so if you are sensitive to outside noise, keep it in mind. 

There is a great bar and historic dining room with original murals and tales of George Washington. The bar staff were extremely friendly. I felt like family when I left and will stay there again. 

This little town gets busy in the summer, so make your plans now. Very close to George Washington's crossing of the Delaware and other historic sites.  Bucks county is full of charm.

Small, intimate and warm

After a long day on the job and car shopping   we decided to go the the Temperance house for dinner.  Everything that night was exceptional from the barmaid/waitress (Adrienne) to the flight of ale my wife's favorite was Duchess Cherry. The artichoke appetizer was delicious, next was the garlic parmesan hot wings just the right amount of spice and crunch. Next came the pork plate that was also fantastic. The highlight of the night was the short braised ribs again everything was 5 stars. 

Unexpected date night.

The room was ok. Clean which is the most important. Comfortable beds. Had a tv  I thought it said free breakfast but it does not come with breakfast just coffee and juice. Could be a little cheaper. I needed two beds.  Had a nice bar with good food for dinner. Really enjoyed that. Nothing fancy in the room but it was ok.

Nice place to visit

We stayed here Sept. 17-18, 2021, and had a great time.  The good:  Nice clean room, plenty of drawer space & closet space (not a whole lot of bathroom storage space, but adequate), good air conditioning, plenty of hot water, VERY nice staff.  The not quite as good:  Staff do double duty @ inn & restaurant, so someone isn't always available (this could be because of current national labor shortage), and the "continental breakfast" consists of a Keurig coffee machine, a microwave, a fridge, and some store-bought patries.  Also, as noted in other reviews, very narrow, steep stairs and no elevator -- but this is a combination of 3 properties that date back to to 18th century, which is what gives it its charm.  We stayed in Chloe's Loft, which is a very large room with separate seating, plenty of light for reading, and overall just a lovely space.  Would definitely stay here again!

Beautiful historic inn

I was travelling for work and needed a room for a single night.  The Inn offers an $89 business traveler rate and you must call to book it.  I sent an email and the owner Kathy got back to me the same day and booked the room for me.  For history lovers, this is a very interesting place to stay.  I had dinner at the tavern and Kathy showed me the restaurant dining room that George Washington met with his men in during the Revolutionary War.   Dinner at the Tavern was wonderful and reasonably priced.  The staff is very friendly.  I stayed in the Haunted Porter's Room which I was a bit nervous about but I'm pleased to stay that no ghosts bothered me!  I will definitely stay here again if I return to town.
