Despite having stayed at so many wonderful places in Vietnam, Nguyen Shack was our absolute favorite! We really wanted to experience the Mekong Delta in a more authentic way and Nguyen shack offered exactly that. We loved the rustic river-side setting, the natural beauty of the property and most importantly, the staff who were perhaps the most kind, gracious and friendly hosts of our entire trip. We also loved that we could do tours directly by boat from Nguyen shack and enjoyed every offering they had like the tour to the floating markets, sunset boat tour, the food tour not to mention a great private cooking class! We also loved being able to bicycle to neighboring villages on the quiet roads that run along the river. Overall, our time in the Mekong was completely made by how special this property and its staff was and we couldn't recommend it more highly.

The reason for giving 5 stars is because the staff is absolutely wonderful and the owners responded quickly to a concern of ours. The first part of arrival was a little rough. The taxi dropped us off at the turn off from the main road. We thought it would be a little walk.  It was about 1/4 mile walk, which normally isn't a problem, but with luggage it was not pleasant. We were greeted with a cold drink, then taken by boat to the other property that they purchased a couple of years ago, which has all the amenities of original property. My husband and I had a private room with a private bathroom. There is no air conditioning, but we were fine because there were 2 fans in the room. We did the floating market the next day. It was fun to see. A coffee boat pulled up to our boat and I bought an iced coffee with milk for 10K Dong.  It was fun and tasty! The tour also includes a walk around the street market. Our guide bought different things for us to try. Great experience! The property is right on one of the small river canals. It is very relaxing to lounge in a hammock an read a book. The Internet is pretty fast. Some people were talking to their families using Face Chat (I think that's what it is called) on their phones without any problem. The breakfast is great. You order off the menu and there is a good selection. You can order as much as you want. The restaurant is right there for lunch and dinner at very reasonable prices. The beer and sodas were 15-20K Dong (less than $1) and they have mixed drinks as well. There is a minibar in the room and a refrigerator in the dining area stocked with beer, sodas, and water. You can take from the dining room refrigeratort anytime and just write it on a little piece of paper with your room number and put it on "drink needle." If you need anything, the staff is there to help. I wake up early and they made an iced coffee for me at 5am (breakfast starts at 7am, I think). They have bicycles that you can use for free, and they also offer a bicycle tour. Some of the other guests did the bicycle tour and had a really good time. The rooms are clean and the bed is surprisingly comfortable. When we left they charged us for the room again. I did not realize we had paid for the room in advance. I emailed the owners an they apologized and refunded it immediately. From the newer property it is a little walk to the road to catch the taxi. The staff loaded up our luggage on the motor bike and took it to the road for us. The hospitality is awesome!! We would definitely stay here again.

The staff is great!

We stayed here for 3 nights and it was just wonderful, such a peaceful getaway from Ho Chi Minh City. The tours they offer from the hotel are excellent and the scenery is second to none! 
We really enjoyed seeing the floating markets and the sunset boat cruise they offer... so beautiful! 
They also had two very cute and cheeky puppies there at the time, I loved them! 
Staff are very friendly and happy to help anytime. 

Beautiful scenery 

Bit of a shock to find we had shared bathroom, but it was very clean and no problem as there seem to be plenty. The place is literally a shack on the Mekong, but a wonderful way to experience the Mekong delta. We had mosquito nets over our beds and everything was very clean. The hammocks on the balcony over looking the river are a great place to relax and recover from the very early trip to the floating ,market. Food was great here too, and they had free bikes you could borrow

Basic but wonderful

We stayed for two nights. Room was clean and nice. Bed was comfy and fresh. Of course everything is made from bamboo ( walls etc ) and you can hear other guests. But that’s what it is when you go to a place
Like that. It is very relaxing and chilled here. Of course you don’t have a 5star shower but the bathrooms are clean and good. We enjoyed our stay very much. The staff is super friendly and the food good. The tours could have been a bit better. Maybe they could add some background stories to the tours. It’s mainly now a boat trip to the different places but without a proper explanation about things. Would come here again next time it is very nice.
